    Best: The American Revolution

Worst: Some standouts are a) Our involvement in WWI & b) The Banana Wars.

PS What's so great about the Whisky Rebellion?

      US -
Best: Writing the Constitution. The Revolution was swell, but would have been merely a coup d'etat without the Sacred Document.

Worst: Well, everything to do with slavery, but if a single moment has to be identified I guess I'll go with the striking of all references to slavery from the Declaration of Independence. That or the 3/5 clause, as JohnT mentioned. Very close second: the Trail of Tears.

      Turkey-
Best: The War for Independence; Turkey fights a 3-front war, kicks French, Italian, and Greek @ss, and establishes the first secular state in the Islamic world.

Worst: The Armenian genocide (or, as they call it here, the "so-called Armenian genocide" )

        Belgium:

        The After WWII period:
        -The very fast economical grown.
-The creation of the very good social security system that even survived until now.
-The creation by Belgium of the BeNeLux what later growned to the E.U.

The german occupation of Belgium in WWII:
-The killing of many jews, like in Antwerp.
-But even worser: the collaboration of some Belgians with the Germans in doing that, especial in Antwerp.

I'm not trolling, I'm just curious: do you and/or Belgians generally consider this worse than Belgium's atrocities in the Congo?

The destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians in 537 BC?

The Jewish rebellion against the Romans in 74 AD, which lead to a genocide of 1 million Jews?

The involvement of the Sanhedrin in the capture and death of a man called Jesus, considered by many (and I mean many) the Christ?

            Hope I helped you, Eli!

                Argentina:

Best- The Campaña del Desierto after its completion (1882). It catapulted the conservatives under Roca to power and a period of unparallel growth made Argentina, in 30 years, the 6th world economic power.

Worst- The Dirty War, 1976-1983. The impunity to kill and repress were never so open.

My definition is identical to the other posters' definitions. The period when your country was one of the really bad guys. Like US and the slavery and the Finnish civil war. Not the period when your country suffered the most.

                        Worst: 1938-1945, for obvious reasons.

Best: Difficult to pick... the colonization and melting pot of bavarian, slavic and roman populations from the 8th to the 12th/13th century; the vibrant cultural and intellectual life in the decades leading up to WWI; the slow but steady development from banana republic to respectable democracy since the 1950s.

                          1) Sanhedrin's "judgement" of Jesus.
                          2) Isreali genocide of the Canaanites.
                          3) Sicarii & Zealot terrorism against Rome.

I can go on if you wish.

                            Germans being brief again?

I agree on the worst one, and your idea for the best moment came to my mind as well... but there were better moments in our thousand years history
