Was a joke. Hence the split infinitive.

Jon Miller: MikeH is a shockingly revolting dolt and a masturbatory urine-reeking sideshow freak whose word is as valuable as an aging cow paddy.

Hm. Well, I suppose my main language of education has been English for a good seven years now, which might account for it. I believe that what sets the foreigner and the native appart is not so much the basic gramattical structure, which is easy to learn, but the appropriate use of vocabulary and idioms. I'm probably better at writing formal English than slang...

Yeah, that's why we call it American English.

Get Your Hands Off Of Me! (American English Discussion Thread)

Isn't this the most ridiculous saying...why the need for off followed by another of? It doesn't make sense, and is extremely poor grammar.

EDIT: oh bollocks this was meant to be a new thread

And speaking of bad English, lest any of you be hypocritical, why is it people say the word "done" when they really mean "finished"?

Example: It's common to say "I'm done". It's correct to say "I'm finished".
