Except for the lady to Cheney's back-right who is wearing all brown.... No, we cannot waiver, if we allow shades of brown then it's a slipery slope to grey, navy and eventually neon colors. Brown is still bad, just not as bad as Cheney's drab olive which is sooo '90s. Wait, the guy behind that woman is wearing an even lighter brown hat & scarf! Who does he think he is?! And then there's the guy in the upper left with a blue scarf that's tooo bright and light grey hat! Even Cheney wore a black ski cap. But, lets be fair and at least give Cheney's black gloves a .

The Auschwitz victims are probably turning in their graves at these... colors. It would have been better if Cheney and these people didn't go at all, but at least we have Bob Givhan as a fashion writer to address this serious tragedy.

    • I still can't believe this non-issue is being debated.

In the countries devastated by the Indian Ocean tsunami, do you think the emergency services and anyone who helped should have first thought:

"Oops! I may not be wearing appropriately sombre enough clothing for the occasion, should I happen to be in the presence of the recently dead and the fashionista police. Better don some Muji or Issey Miyake multi-purpose washable chic funeral pyjamas.''

I mean seriously- there's a man wearing a flat cap in the 'photo. Did noone tell him how inappropriate it was to wear an article of clothing so dear to the hearts of some of the world's urban proletariat?

      What was he thinking ?!!?

And there's another one with a bare head!

      How religiously disrespectful!

And some people look to be wearing items made of real fur, stripped from the bodies of poor defenceless animals!

Have they no shame, compounding human cruelty and suffering with humanity's barbarism to animals?

Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

A flat cap such as the grey one worn by the man standing one from the left in the row immediately behind Cheney.

If you look at pictures such as L. S. Lowry's portrayals of the urban working classes in Manchester and Salford you'll see many men wearing them, as you would in photographs of Welsh miners in Victorian and Edwardian times. My grandfather used to routinely wear one.

              • Everyone prove your point and wear holiday shirt to a funeral of someone who meant a lot to you. If it's somekind of wierd wish of the deceased to have that kind of party and everyone does then it doesn't count. I dear you.

                  • What holiday do olive coats celebrate in country? I bet Cheney was silently celebrating his religious holiday beliefs through color.

Is there reliable evidence he isn't an anti-semitic childeating Satanist?

Other than being Vice President of the United States that is.

I mean, they are nice enough people but you wouldn't put them in charge of a superpower. The Bush administration is chock full of hicks and yockalls from God-knows-where, bible belt USA.
Is this where someone pro-bush is supposed to write something back and you try to come up with something witty?
Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh

                        • Nobody can be sure if the other people who put some effort and dressed up for it really care about cause of the occasion either, too bad Cheney was the one revealing. He didn't prepare for it. It stands out if others do. Is there a reliable evidence he didn't prepare for it? Duh.

Nazi uniform = Inappropriate = Olive Coat = Holiday
Yes, all fit nicely into the same little box.

I suspect you might go zombie at your funeral and scream curses non-stop at your best friend if (s)he wore an olive coat and then make an article about it.

Nevertheless, this issue been blown way out of porportion, all starting from a fashion writer who had nothing else to talk about.
