I feel sick just reading Shi's posts.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.
    -Richard Dawkins

If we were talking about Christians who burnt people byu the stake, Shi would be defending them.

Absolutely right. I can't believe someone here really defends that position. I would maybe expect someone to argue that "it wasn't really like that" etc., but this is sickening.

to DD for bringing most people's position to the point.

The people who feel "shocked" to agree with me are payment enough for my efforts. That and Shi's posts about how this isn't morally repugnant give me no end of amusement.

I wouldn't say ultimate... but evil nonetheless.

You know, we don't even know what group they're from. The article says they're nuns, so presumably they're Catholic, but I wonder which order? Surely Sister Theresa's group hasn't degenerated to this extent?

The Indonesian government refused to allow a Christian group to set up an orphange for Muslim children on the basis that it did not want the children to be brought up outside of their parent's religion.

Actually, there are many who would say Mother Theresa's group was bad enough while she was around. There are a lot of folks who don't think she was quite the saint everyone thinks of her as.

Quite right. And I wonder why a couple of (American) righties here defend these people, when, for all we know about it, the christian group could be European, or (shudder) even worse, French.

                          • This is actually rather typical behavior of Christians in India. Mother Theresa also practiced such methods of "saving souls," according to Christopher Hitchens.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Oh dear, what sort of cockamamy story has some psycho made up now? I'm pretty certain she didn't require that the people she helped convert to Catholicism. She wouldn't have had much of a mission if she had.
