One possible reason: since we don't take them seriously, they don't make it. Could you listen to a japanese gangsta rapper rapping about *****es and hoes without smiling?

Another: they tend to make music in their native language.

cibo matto, whose lead singer I met at a Huddle House in Oxford, MS with her then boyfriend Sean Lennon.

I saw a wacky band fronted by a Japanese (I think) female called Deer Hooves (or something like that). Straight rock, more or less, with japanese lyrics and screaming ****.

              Not exactly popular music.

I think we can all agree who the song belongs to after his legendary performances last year.

In the UK asians seem to be producers/remixers more than artists (the stuff I listen to anyhow)
Good point. Talvin Singh is a brit, right? Dj Krush is also doing very well.

Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.
                        -Richard Dawkins

They're all in Asia, making Asian pop music.

And if you've ever heard Asian pop music, you know how thankful you should be that they're far, far away.

I'm aware of that. I was thinking of mainstream north american popular music. There are plenty of white people, black people and latinos, but no asians.
