      I think Berz nails it.

Many people could be attracted by Mac's simplicity, and may want to switch from PC to Macs. However they don't want to invest heavily into something they don't know.

500$ is a modest cost for a computer, and something the Mac-Curious could probably afford. I don't know if the rumor is true. But it looks like a sound commercial policy to me: expand your market by making a product that can be attractive to potential new customers, instead of focusing on the same niche, that only shrinks.

My point exactly and in your face, Fez (if you haven't blocked me yet)! Though I have this gut feeling that you still don't quite get my drift.

So, if this rumor is true, then keep up the good work, Apple; you are moving in the right direction!

But are you still a niche player then? This piece of pricing tactics just undermines the differentiation strategy of Apple.

But you must realize that if Apple doesn't start thinking "outside the box" they might be out of the PC business within a few years.

In my face? With the 2% and declining market share Apple holds? The only thing that is in your face is the AMD Athlon 64, and the fact it can be afforded for mid-range machines.

I don't see anybody the username of fez.

But at any rate, you make me laugh hard. You ultra-conservative christians... you are trying to hijack America and turn us into a backwards theocratic state.

You know, if you just ignored it when people call you Fez instead of making remarks about it then this will eventually go away naturally. Cuz you know what, it's hilarious when you get all fired up over it and it just makes people want to tease you about it even more.

Call me by my real name. Fez is no longer used around here except by the people who want to create problems and I now direct those people to ming. Apple is still losing.

Good, so in that case you will move out of the country to achieve that? And perhaps go to Iran? The mullahs will like you.

This theory fails miserably, though, if you look at the real world. Many, maybe even most eductational computers (at least through high school) are Macs. Few or no people go through school without exposure to Macs. Most hate them, and we don't see people rushing to buy a Mac as soon as they leave school.

A prophecied leader, yet to come, that will lead a failed full-scale invasion of Israel.
