Um, you can't automatically assume that the other 78% are afraid.
I can when that 78% trembles before the 22%.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...
Because it's more than 22% who are pissed off about the perceived decline in morality. The 22% are the chearleaders. There are more that go along for the ride.
I *do* fear the 22%, not in and of themselves, but for what they can accomplish.
It's funny how stupid people think sex is evil before marriage but good after marriage.
the context of a marriage allows us to assume a certain level of compatibility and permanence between the two individuals; a security that assures society that the children that will possibly be conceived through the sex act will grow up in stable homes.
duh

it's not an issue of pre-marital sex being a sin... it's an issue of it being done in a situation that makes it more difficult to deal with the possible consequences such as conception. married people are in a better situation than unmarried people with respect to dealing with pregnancy.

If you're trying to make a practical argument, Speer, you're gonna lose on this one.
The "pledge-takers" who pledged abstinence didn't abstain 88% of the time, and a higher percentage of them failed to use contraception when they did have sex.
So not only does abstinence sex-ed generally fail, it compounds the problem by reducing people's awareness/use of contraception.

Um... that's why you educate people on contraception so it isn't really a problem.

I'm sure 50% of marrages would disagree with that prognosis .

But it's because of our permissive liberal society, Imran, that 50% of marriages fail. Back in the good 'ole days, before women had rights and sex was one's reproductive duty, it was better

Should we pull up some statistics on children who come from a broken home, or a home with only one parent, or bastard children?
I don't think he will lose an argument stating that two parents are better than one, and that ppl who married and have children are more likely to raise the children than are two strangers who got drunk and played hide the pickle one night.

Yeah, because back in the "good old days" if a husband was a drunken wife beating piece of **** the woman was just **** out of luck. She was stuck with him no matter what. Now days we're just to permissive letting those women walk out like that.

Usually. I've known people better off without one of the parents.

That assumes sex ought to be used for the purposes of creating children, Speer.

How about an argument that no children are better than one when those are single inevitably decide to have premarital sex?

Um... that's why you educate people on contraception so it isn't really a problem.
According to the same people (who promote Sex after marriage) Sex Ed of Teenagers is evil, as teenagers who have detailed knowledge about their sexuality (and contraceptives) are more likely to try it before marriage.
So no, teaching them before marriage to use contraceptives isn´t an option (you might try it after marriage though [but of course only, if contraception is allowed in your parish ])
