The difference between losers and patsies is that losers can still beat you on any given weekend while patsies have zero chance. And games against losers can still injure your players.

To my mind, Auburn's starters only played 9 games this year. Pretty pathetic.

thats a lot more than USC who played a conference of patsies but managed to make a bunch of the games close, and infact thats where you're confused. you think that cuz they played USC close they are good, well they're not, they played USC close cuz USC isnt that great.

You seem to forget that USC has played one other BCS team, can Auburn say that?

USC beat #9 at the Time Virginia Tech, #21 Arizona State,and #4 Cal, so they played one less ranked team.

virginia tech was not ranked 9th at the time they played USC, they were ranked #25, they blew out Zona and alomst lost to Cal.

Auburn has played Tennesse twice, Georgia, and LSU, and beat all three, some by bloutouts.

So what if they weren't ranked? They are now.

Tennessee they blewout once and then barely beat yesterday. Georgia is overrated(hmmm, seem to have something against Georgia football teaMS ) LSU was overrated as well.

However, Auburn didn't make the Orange Bowl becuase of their poor showing last year.

Preseason #1 that finishes with a losing record. It cost them this year. Because they were ranked 17th to start this season.

EXACTLY. which is why the BCS is a crrock. too much in the preseason poll, too much with running up the scores. cal won their games by an average of 24 and didnt need to run up no scores lik OU. how low can you stoop?

The SEC is the most competitive league (by far). Auburn should be ranked #1. These rankings are just another BCS debacle to try to 'fix' last years debacle.

I think there's a good way to solve this- simply let the BCS pick the top 4 teams, play two New Years Day bowl, and play a true championship bowl one week later on January 8. It's not perfect, but it's the best compromise.

Michigan-Texas is a good matchup for the Rose, but I dont' think the Wolvs can hang with a good Southern team. Well see, I guess..

You're right... not perfect, but a good start. The teams that don't make the final four but are high in the rankings can fill out the rest of the New Year Game bowls... and save the two play off games as the last two games of the day... and have a BIG day a week later for the true championship. Even with four teams, I'm sure somebody will whine that they are left out... but that sure beats the hell out of the current system.

Good lord, most of these bowl games are absolute dogs.

You have to go all the way down the list until Louisville vs. Boise State to get anything remotely interesting.

Michigan-Texas ought to be good. USC-Oklahoma, of course. Utah-Pitt is gonna be absolutely brutal. Auburn-Va Tech might be interesting, but it has the whiff of blowout all over it.

Crappy, crappy, crappy year for bowls.
