An alternative would be like soccer is done in some countries. Have two tiers, where you have to earn your way into the higher division. Of course, this would screw up the leagues.

Well the problem is that in those soccer leagues every team in each division plays every other team in that divison multiple times. That is what makes religation and promotion 'fair'. You can't really have that college football.

CAL GOT SCREWED WHAT A CROCK THIS SYSTEM BLOWS IN A MILLION WAYS.

I'm satisfied with the current system and think that it did its job just fine this year. Auburn, Utah, and Boise State are judged in part by their strength of schedules. It seems pretty clear to me that USC and Oklahoma are #1 and #2, respectively. If Auburn, Utah, and Boise State don't want left out next time, they'll schedule tougher opponents.
you're crazy. USC has one of the easiest scheduals. the pac 10 blows. the only good team they beat was cal, and they barely beat them. meanwhile, auburn beats last years co-national champs (LSU) and two other top 10 teams. You have no idea what you're talking about. Auburn is clearly the best team, followed by OU, then USC, then Cal, then Texas. Cal, who lost to the number 1 team in the land, gets 5th, while Texas who lost to a way weaker team, gets the nod above them. there is nothing here that makes sense, get rid of the whole thing.

auburn went undefeated in the SEC, you cant schedual any tougher games then that.

Cal got royally screwed by the coaches poll. I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that the Big 12 has 12 votes and the Pac 10 only has 10. The coaches votes need to be made public.

          Auburn fan?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Yes you can. The SEC SUCKED this year. In numerous computer polls, the conference ranked 4th or 5th. The SEC record in 7+ win teams in out of conference play was 3-7 (and two of those wins were against Troy). They just were not that good this year, which makes this 'outrage' even funnier.

maybe, but auburn beat 3 top 10 teams. 3. no one else came close. and they didnt just beat them, they blew them out. usc didnt blow out any top 10 teams. nor did ou.

or last year when OU lost the BIg 12 championships and still went. what a crock. usc shoulda gone that year, and least it woulda been competitive. ou chocked of course, because they didnt deserve to be in it, but this sytem promotes chaos and idiocricy.

3 Top 10 Teams? The only SEC teams I see in the top 10 are Auburn and Georgia. Unless you are using the idiotic ranked in the Top 10 when they played them measure, which is absolutely useless. After all, West Virginia was ranked 10th in the beginning of the year. Guess that Virginia Tech can say it beat another Top 10 team by beating WVa?

And it's telling that in EVERY poll, human or computer, Auburn finishes 3rd. And I'm not talking about the aggregate of the computer polls, no... EVERY SINGLE computer poll had Auburn in 3rd, leading to their aggregate to be 3rd.

And OU beat the crap out of Texas. Just because it was 'only' 12-0 didn't mean they beat them worse than Auburn beat Tennessee the first time.

Cal took a knee instead of running it up on Southern Mississippi. It would be a real shame if that made the difference for a few of the poll voters.

thats what im using, since after all, after one loss, most teams drop 4 - 6 places. they beat LSU, Tenessee twice, and Georgia. 3 top 10 teams.

And it's telling that in EVERY poll, human or computer, Auburn finishes 3rd. And I'm not talking about the aggregate of the computer polls, no... EVERY SINGLE computer poll had Auburn in 3rd, leading to their aggregate to be 3rd.
who cares what the computer says. those things are flawed. you know it, i know it, the bcs knows it. too much emphasise on preseason. as for the human polls, they are flawed too, because until you see the teams play each other, you dont know which one is better. and since coaches/ writers dont watch the west coast games, they check out the scores and base it on that, which leads to coaches like bob stoops running up the scores to help them both in the computers and on the polls.

as you can see, if OU coulda scored more, they woulda. 12 - 0 is not beating the crap outta them. look at how they did nebraska. bob stoops is a low down person who hurts the game by running up scores. but he has to, because auburn was breathing down their necks and this sytem doesnt work.

espn seems to think it cost them in the coaches/AP polls.

last week, when Cal was idle and Texas barely beat A&M a weak school., Texas gains 0.3 points on Cal, and is literally breathing down their necks. they were separated by 8 votes total between coaches and AP poll. how is it that texas who barely beat A&M gets 4th while Cal who barely beat a better southern miss team, but coulda run up the score and didnt, gets 5th, in incomprehensible and undefensible.

That's an idiotic measure. You judge how many Top 10 teams a team has beaten after the season is over. Auburn has beaten only 1, Georgia. The others aren't good enough.

who cares what the computer says. those things are flawed. you know it, i know it, the bcs knows it. too much emphasise on preseason.

The computers don't take preseason into account. And they are the best argument against the human bias argument (ie, teams drop 4-6 places after a loss).

if OU coulda scored more, they woulda. 12 - 0 is not beating the crap outta them.

Did you watch the game? It was a total beat down. Oklahoma played ball control and rushed the ball down Texas's throat, with Peterson getting 225 yards on the ground in that game.
