whats the difference between MB20 and U2, what makes MB20 **** and U2 one of the best bands ever.

MB20 albums are all the same style of music.
U2 has american blues/folk (Wide awake in America) has rock/punk in Boy and War, finishes the 80s with Joshua Tree, considered one of the top 10 rock albums of all time, where they established their own sound, moved into the heavily synthzied Achtung Baby, then dabbled in envelope pushing music in Zooropa.

all that you cant leave behind returned to the joshua tree sound, with some pop mixed in, and now their latest album is full on pop

as you can see, the band evolves, and does different things. MB20 is stuck in a rut, and this rut is flooded with millions of other songs that all sound alike

That's the norm for me. Especially with Sticky Fingers, Exile, Let it Bleed, etc.

Maybe you should listen to the albums first.

First start with Don't Play with Matches when they were known as Tabitha's Secret -- it's low-fi folk-rock, some stuff that definitely sounds like country, and even some blues. Emphasis on acoustics.

Then pick up some Bed of Lies or You Won't Be Mine off Mad Season, which are definitely jazz.

Then listen to So Sad, So Lonely off More Than You Think You Are, which is swing.

I'll grant you that the singles are very mainstream in style (but better done than most, IMO), but that's the purpose of the singles...

you look at an entire album, you compare that entire album to another entire album, and what do you get? the same trends, the same music, the same styles.

I just look for different things in music than you guys do. I get into music a different way, I try to relate to it and...put myself in the song I guess. I can't ever listen to music in the background, for instance. It needs my full attention.

I think the people who look at music and constantly break it down to the technicalities of it all, without scope of the meaning, emotion, and intent, are missing the best part of music.

That's why I'm not a fan of most of the stuff you guys may like. While technically it's innovative or cutting edge or nice, it's heartless and boring to me.

The 'Stones have always been about the big-badass-image and show-band, their songs lack any emotional depth to them.

You haven't even heard the four albums, man.

They certainly are different, and you can instantly tell which album it came from when you hear it.

You won't find stuff with a 65-piece orchestra on YSLU or MTYTYA, for instance...

12 years of music theory is better than none, and certainly more than someone who says "trust me, I know music", with a U2 avatar after just discovering U2 is derivative pop crap.

MB20 is just a fluff band, and they are only in business because record labels sign bands who do stuff thats already been done because its a sure sell.

Rob Thomas was homeless for 3 frickin' years and could never get signed by a label. It wasn't until he built up a cult following at tiny clubs in Florida that people started paying attention, and they gave him one of the crappiest deals you could get: we'll sign you, but you get 2 days in the recording studio and you have to get rid of half of the band -- we don't like them. Further, ALL of his songs were copyrighted to the entire band, so he had to rewrite all of the songs for the band in the two months before his two-day recording session.

They earned their deal, they earned their popularity. They've never been actively promoted by their label (in fact, I don't think they've ever had an album hit #1 on the charts), they slowly and surely built up a huge fan base.

It's not the record-label-creation you make it out to be. If you knew a damn thing you were talking about, and if you truly knew music like you claim, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Besides, if you are looking for emotion, then you should love Green Day's new album... it's about how pissed off they are that George W. Bush won .

I've heard the album in full on the radio the night before it launched.

I don't consider political songs to be especially emotional. And there are way better political songs, some more subtle (I like it that way), than what Green Day has just put out. They hit you over the head with it. It reminds me a lot of Sum41's latest single, which is equally crap.

A good political song is Incubus' Talk Show on Mute. It's more...intelligent...than Green Day's in-your-face political rant.
