  • U2's New CD - Whaddaya Think?

I think it blows. Ive been a U2 fan forever, and their new CD is straight up pop. they said it was the best music they have ever cranked out, but i think its three steps backwards. sure, they've always dabbled in what was popular at the time (achtung baby, joshua tree, war, etc) and also done some weird stuff (zooropa) but i think this new album just stinks straight up.

What, is it even released yet? I'm just so behind the times, it seems.

having just heard vertigo, I can't say I was impressed. Sounds rehashed to me, very uninventive.

U2 has always been crap, and you're just now realizing it.

They were a named by a guy in Marketing, and you're just now realizing it's poppy?

I listened to 2 hours of "the history of U2" on the radio ("The Ongoing History of New Music"), and was surprised what ****s they were.

U2's music may be crap, but you have to admire their philanthropic leanings.

It's easy to be philanthropic when you have hundreds of millions of dollars...

So far I've heard nothing but good stuff about. I like 'Vertigo'. It probably will not be another 'Joshua Tree', but I'll probably end up getting the new album... right after I get Green Day's "American Idiot".

What's with you and washed up rock bands past their prime?

                      At least I don't like Matchbox 20

It's pretty good. I might actually go and buy the thing... which would be quite a milestone for me, since I haven't bought a "rock" or "pop" album in over a decade.

                            speaking of...

I found out recently that one of the member's in said band is my boss's son. Weird. I won't state whom (think Indiana), for fear of googling.

I can see why you wouldn't.

MB20 is heart-felt, melodic, catchy music.

U2 is synthetic, heartless, pop music. Most of the songs aren't even written by the band anymore. Beautiful Day was written by the same guy who writes lots of Celine Dion music, IIRC...

                              The tastes do not mix.

I went to a Green Day concert when I was 13, but I'd never go to one today. It's time to move on, son.
