I can see NE having a better record than PIT, but I can't see it happening the other way around. However, I think the most likely outcome is that they'll tie at either 15-1 or 14-2, and PIT will get 1st seed from head to head.
I do think New England is the better team, and they will represent the AFC in the Superbowl. Their special teams and defense often score in the double digits. Vinatieri is the best kicker in the NFL, and they scored two touchdowns on defense and special teams this week. Brady threw for 157 yards, and they put up 42 points.
The Steelers are about even with the Pats on special teams. Antwaan Randle El rules, and they're solid on everything else. They don't have anyone quite like Adam Vinatieri, but they're pretty damn good. The two teams are also even on defense (Pats have allowed 189 points so far to the Steelers 185)
However, I think that the Pats offense is clearly better. What it comes down to is the QBs.
Roethlisberger is an excellent quarterback given that he's a rookie, but I think he's a little overrated. He's not the one carrying the team to victory. Roethlisberger is 24th in passing yards. It's not because he's a bad QB, but it's simply because he makes so few attempts. The Steelers have called fewer passing plays than any other team in the NFL. Roethlisberger has thrown the ball 212 times. He has handed it off to a back over 400 times. When he throws, he throws pretty well, but he is not by any means the backbone of the team. The linemen are the backbone of the team.
