Yes, a robot can be trained, so can a fox, so can a human being. But a robot, at least current ones, don;t feel pain, and they "feel" things complete differently than living things- They do not work on a biochemical system created over 1 billion years, but a digital system created by people and run on silicon wafers.

There is a hugely fundamental difference between a robot and a living thing- maybe one day artifical beings might be nearly as complex as living things, but not today, and the comparison is false.

They feel pain, it distresses them, and thanks to our ability to empathize, many of us, if not most of us don;t want to make animals feel pain if there is no need. Hence animal cruelty laws. We already get that you have 0 empathy for animals. But most people here do.

Pain is a good thing, in that it tells your body something is terribly wrong. When things are very wrong, you might not make it very far. The fact you feel horrible pain when your appendix bursts helps you know something is wrong. Withoput such pain, you would just die.

So pain is the universe way of telling you that something is very wrong- if an animal is having pain, then something is wrong- and most of us don't see why we should inflict something painful on an animal unless there is a damned good reason, and having a weekday of fun is not enough.

Obviously, my comment was made with regards to the pain as a clearly biochemical concept. The fact that this biochemical effect has a stressful influence on some biochemical system, is of little consequence to me. Obviously, it will have a lot of consequence for me if is made to a human, which is a biochemical system, that generally, barring any other parameters, I am interested in its' successful survival and advancement, because it will make me feel better ( recieve positive biochemical feedback), and just because I've been programmed to do so.
