No, the Cubs just suck. The White Sox have been just as bad for almost just as long (since 1917... longer than the Red Sox before this win).

Guess what is on the front page of CNN.com? The Red Sox . Yeah, this team won't be remembered .

You forget that the White Sox would have destroyed the Reds in 1919 if not for Charles Comiskey being a cheap, idiot bastard of an owner...

And of course, all your discussions with, say, Cleveland fans, have been long and sotired discussions on a wide set of topic- ditto with the Braves and Marlin's fans... Sorry Imran, what you just did is called the samplign assumption- the fallacy that thinking cause you know a small sample, you "know something". To err is Imran, I guess.
Perhaps you can take another taste of your medicine.
OMG! Another BAM! How many people don't remember the '97 Marlins? 90%? Where's your proof!
Thats the POINT! Just saying "more people remeber the 97 Marlins" does not make something true. Sheesh
Have they gone to the WS and lost so heartbreakingly as the Red Sox? Have they been thawrted as many times in such fashion?
So many times? What was particularly horrible about the loses in '46 and '67? Lets see, Bucky, Buckner, Boone... that's 3 incidents, in 3 games, in an 86 year history....I guess everyone forgets that Buckner had the ball go through in GAME 6. What was so cursed about the Sox then not being able to wrap it up in Game 7?
Can you claim any back up that they aren't one of the most remembered teams in hockey. Can you name 5 teams which are more remembered.
Not anymore than you can show me they are one of the top 5 teams remembered. But I can say, as someone who remembers that actual victory, that there really has been no risidual "love" form it, and that 9 years after, it is hardly a consolation to current Rangers fans.
People cheered the Bills during the early 90s. People cheered the Sox of the 40s. Just because they didn't win doesn't mean no one cheered for them. Just read how many books have been written about the Williams' Sox. "Teammates" is the latest, famous one.
Yes, that team was compelling, and Ted Williams a great player. But if there is so much to cheer, were the hell does the "we are cursed" come from? No one ever said the Rangers were cursed.
There was plenty to cheer about even when your team doesn't go all the way. Are you seriously telling me that the fans didn't cheer when Hank Aaron hit his 715th? How about when McGwire hit his 62?
I didn;t know Hank hitting 715 was a TEAM accomplishment, as opposed to an individual players achivement over a lifetime- Its not like the Orioles are responsible for Carl Ripkens game record.
You deserve even more than I have already given you in this thread.

So the fact the Cubs have also had a few incidents that seem "ordained" does not place them in the "crused category"? Who made you the arbitrer of it?

Who ever said they woundn't?
Of course, the Laci Peterson case also makes the headlines in CNN- I don;t know how much that helps make a point...

This is the third year in a row the Wild Card team has won the series...The Soxs, the Marlins, and the Angels....
I wonder what accounts for this?

The other fans I've spoken with knew something about the history of the league beyond their own team much more than Yankee fans. It was the Yankee fans who were most provincial. And it ain't a fallacy if it's true . Especially when you have a ton of Yankee 'fans' who basically jumped on the bandwagon in recent years.
There are definetly some Yankee fans who know their history (Oldwarrior, Arrian). But most of them I've run into (adding yourself) don't have a clue.
Thats the POINT! Just saying "more people remeber the 97 Marlins" does not make something true. Sheesh
I can see you have never had a sports discussion before. Making assertions about opinions, comparing teams to other teams which you cannot measure by stats or formal proofs is part of discussing sports.
And in that realm, LoA is more apt to discussing sports than you are with your constant "where is your proof" crap .
Do you say that when people argue about which was the best baseball team of all time?
So many times? What was particularly horrible about the loses in '46 and '67? Lets see, Bucky, Buckner, Boone... that's 3 incidents, in 3 games, in an 86 year history....I guess everyone forgets that Buckner had the ball go through in GAME 6. What was so cursed about the Sox then not being able to wrap it up in Game 7?
Oy, my point about Yankee fans and history seems to repeat itself. I DID earlier in this thread use Enos Slaughter's mad dash as an example, right? That was the '46 World Series.
You also forget '75, where Fisk had to will the Sox to Game 7, but it was false hope as they couldn't hang on.
When there is all that false hope and the team fails, what else can you say but they are cursed. Also it is part of lore.
And the whole Game 6, Game 7 discussion is irrelevent. If you've seen the '85 World Series (the aforementioned Derkinger series) you'd know that a crushing loss in Game 6 can have a massive effect on Game 7 chances.
But I can say, as someone who remembers that actual victory, that there really has been no risidual "love" form it, and that 9 years after, it is hardly a consolation to current Rangers fans.
That's news to me, when I hear Ranger fans chant "Matteau, Matteau" to me are various times. Of course saying 3 Stanley's in 10 years deflects a little... but just barely.
Yes, that team was compelling, and Ted Williams a great player. But if there is so much to cheer, were the hell does the "we are cursed" come from?
We are cursed means there is nothing to cheer about? Didn't you bring up the 'lovable loser' title? Do lovable loser fans not cheer for their team? No, that's silly. When teams which are losers have fans who don't cheer you get the Expos or the two previous incarnations of the Washington Senators.
I didn;t know Hank hitting 715 was a TEAM accomplishment, as opposed to an individual players achivement over a lifetime- Its not like the Orioles are responsible for Carl Ripkens game record.
Hank's HR is a part of Braves history. Ripken's is a part of Orioles history. I don't know if you are aware, but baseball is a team sport and thus any member of the team who accomplishes something makes it a part of that team's history.

Because this is a sports argument, so I can be arbitrer of anything I want . I decide the Cubs just have bad luck. To borrow one of your arguments prove they are cursed .
Sorry, bub... leave the sports discussions to those who know how to carry them out.
