As long as the government is providing it, there's nothing inconsistent with accepting government welfare but wanting it to end.

                Yes.
Not really, since the state assumes that the only fair use of forest is to exploit it. Only those wanting to derive profit from its exploitation truly have an equal right to it.

Libertarians have such a distorted view of human nature that they are as painful to listen to as Bush's campaign commercials. Libs should be forced to work in a sweatshop so they can experience thier utopia. They treat the bull**** called Economics as religious dogma istead of caring about a society's responsibillities to it's citizens. The age of capitalism as a force of good ended with the Industrial revolution. Capitalism only works when all businesses are small and there is a shortage of workers.

Bull... it's totally inconsistent. If you believe government welfare is wrong you don't take it! What is the point in saying that since my taxes are paying for it, I can take advantage? Then you are no better than the poor people you deride for living on welfare (after all, you pay for it). You are just perpetuating the system.

                      • Rather than making statements such as I am for unions or against them, or for minimum wages, etc., please explain to me the advantages to society of a minimum wage and/or of unions?

I personally worked in a union shop once. What I found was that one had to pay union dues and for that one got equal pay for unequal work. Many workers were unhappy. They wished they really could work in an ordinary company where wages were more determined by merit and personal effort.

As to the minimum wage, why should this be determined by as if the person employed at the minimum wage was supporting a family. Most often, the person employed at the lowest wages are entry-level workers, part time workers or teen agers. The minimum wage accounts of a lot of unemployment in the US.

                        • "Most often, the person employed at the lowest wages are entry-level workers, part time workers or teen agers."

Realities: The majority of minimum wage workers are adults, many of whom contribute substantially to family income.

                          * According to a study from the Economic Policy Institute, nearly seven of every 10 workers (68 percent) who would benefit from a $1.50 increase in the minimum wage are adults.
                          * Adult women made up the single largest group of beneficiaries from the last minimum wage increase, representing 43 percent of the beneficiaries.
                          * EPI found that nearly eight of 10 workers who would benefit from a $1.50 increase in the minimum wage work full-time (42 percent) or between 20 and 34 hours per week (34 percent).
                          * EPI also found that minimum wage workers contributed an average of 76 percent of a family’s weekly earnings in families with less than $25,000 in income.
                          * A minimum wage increase also benefits many single-parent families. Twenty-five percent of the workers affected by the three-step increase in Oregon’s minimum wage to $6.50 by 1999 were heads of single-parent families.
                          * Forty percent of minimum wage workers are the sole breadwinners in their families.
Realities: Not all minimum wage workers move on to higher-wage jobs—many of them earn the minimum wage or near the minimum wage for quite some time.

                          * According to a study by economists William J. Carrington and Bruce C. Fallick, 19.2 percent of workers who were finished with school spent at least half of the first eight years into their careers in jobs that paid $1.50 above the minimum wage. Some 13.2 percent spent at least half of the first 10 years into their careers in jobs that paid $1.50 above the minimum wage.
                          * A Joint Economic Committee study found that of the 4.2 million young adults (ages 21–29 with high school educations or less) working in minimum wage contour* jobs in 1986, more than half (2.4 million) still were employed in those jobs three years later.
                          * A minimum wage job should offer more than just an opportunity to work—it should guarantee an opportunity to make a living from work. Anyone who puts in a fair day’s work should receive a fair day’s pay, regardless of whether he or she works for a week, a month, a year or 10 years in the job.
                          edit: from the AFL-CIO website.

There nothing inconsistent! He wants the stuff removed, but it doesn't mean he can't take advantage of government services until then - because HE won't be coercing anyone.

So the government would take the forest from you if you weren't using it productively?

Now, remove that rule, but for businesses too

                              • Mr. Mitchell, I should have rephrased. If we had no minimum wage, jobs at any wage an employer or an employee would agree on would be created. This obvously would go a long way to creating jobs for the part time worker and the entry level employee, or for those jobs that do not justify any higher wage.

As for the ability of families to support themselves, one can do that with social policies, such as providing food stamps and health care. The minimum wage is a concept that came from a time when there was less of a social safety net.
