In my largely unbiased opinion, i.e., I won't be supporting either party's lesser evil , I thought it was a ~draw with the edge (if there was one) going to Cheney... But I really need to listen once more, I saw both guys mainly on the attack and not bothering to rebut many charges. Cheney got attacked on Halliburton and instead of defending himself (couldn't?) he attacked Edwards on his lack of attendance in senatorial meetings which Edwards brushed aside with the "distortion" defense.

But judging by the talking heads on MSNBC Cheney won easily... I knew Cheney was a tough debater going in and I knew little about Edwards, but given his profession as a lawyer, I expected him to do well even though he was an unknown in this format.

However, the nature of the flaws both candidates exposed in their competition is on different levels. The incompetence displayed by the Bushies where it matters is rather astounding the more I learn and pointing to the fact Edwards lacks experience is a counter-charge imbued with irony - Bush lacked experience too and that may be why we're in this mess.

I thought Edwards was going to PWN Cheney, but I will give them a tie.

His opening line beat up Cheney pretty bad but he didn't push his point home. Though he did pretty well on hitting him on Halliburton.

Cheney's Iraq content was horrible and repetitive. However he did really well on the economy.

Edwards did a good job when Cheney attacked his record, he responded well by attacking Cheney's. I don't think Cheney expected that.

I did like how at the end how Edwards jumped right out of his seat but Cheney took a while to get up. Clearly trying to demonstrate that Cheney was old.

Score one for the old fat Ogre (Cheney)

As a self proclaimed “uber communarchist liberal” and a firm “anyone but Bush supporter”, I feel that Cheney really laid it in deep to Edwards tonight. Cheney is an old politician, and he knows how to speak better than Edwards in a debate setting.
Edwards didn’t have any excuses for his flaws that Cheney pointed out, and tried, with the skill of a three year old wielding crayon at a wall, to paint a picture of Cheney as a complete hypocrite.
Edwards however; didn’t screw up nearly as bad as Bush did vs. Kerry. I would personally prefer it, if Cheney were to replace Bush in all debates henceforth, because he used a variety of tactics, and backed the sunshine boy from North Carolina, into a very dark hole.
I was disappointed to see how the both Bush and Cheney are using the exact same strategy on Iraq. The debate of Iraq, seemed to be rehash of the Bush Kerry debate, only this time, the right wing was actually informed, and actually understood what was happening.

I think that it seemed pretty clear, that that old fat Ogre (Cheney) seemed to actually unofficially support gay marriage, and gay rights, but seems to only be backing it b/c of his association to Bush, and the fascist (Republican) Party.

Great website by the way, I swear by it. I hope a lot of voters take Cheney's advice to go see it, of its 6 front page articles only one is concentrating on Kerry's BS, one is about all the BS in the first debate and the rest are on Bush's BS.

                  Oh yeah, the grades:

                  Kerry B
                  Bush D-

                  Cheney B+
                  Edwards B-

Kerry needed that win and Bush needed Cheney to comeback and he did. But will Bush show up for the next debate? If he does the improvement will make him look even better given the low expectation...

if that was the case, then how was Bush elected president in 2000? Yes you can say he wasn't elected, but a significant number of people did vote for him.

Right after the debate, NBC showed the clip from Meet the Press a year ago where Cheney tied Iraq and Al Qaeda, which he flat out said he'd never done.
