In my largely unbiased opinion, i.e., I won't be supporting either party's lesser evil
, I thought it was a ~draw with the edge (if there was one) going to Cheney... But I really need to listen once more, I saw both guys mainly on the attack and not bothering to rebut many charges. Cheney got attacked on Halliburton and instead of defending himself (couldn't?) he attacked Edwards on his lack of attendance in senatorial meetings which Edwards brushed aside with the "distortion" defense.
But judging by the talking heads on MSNBC Cheney won easily... I knew Cheney was a tough debater going in and I knew little about Edwards, but given his profession as a lawyer, I expected him to do well even though he was an unknown in this format.
However, the nature of the flaws both candidates exposed in their competition is on different levels. The incompetence displayed by the Bushies where it matters is rather astounding the more I learn and pointing to the fact Edwards lacks experience is a counter-charge imbued with irony - Bush lacked experience too and that may be why we're in this mess.
