      DUDE,

I totally CANNOT WAIT to watch this one.

This is where I think sparks are going to fly.

This debate is so going to be awesome, more of a no holds barred match. Cheney is totally going to lose his temper and Edwards is going to troll his azz into oblivion.

Cheney is an intellectual who can talk but he comes across as a total c ock.

Okay, I've been asking the people on this board for proof that Fox is the propaganda arm of the government.

Well I guess there is the proof.

Bush made so many ridiculous errors how could Kerry not slam dunk him? But Kerry was very effective and while Bush got some good shots in with the repetitive GOP talking points (out of context "quotes"), Bush got ripped apart.

And that analysis comes from someone with no horse in the race...

If you doubt me, tape it and watch closely a couple times...

Who on Fox said Bush won? Was it the anchor? Their political analyst? Or just a guest on the show?

              I'm watching the rerun now.

Bush did worse than I thought.

His body language was absolutley terrible.

I think it was all three.

This was the first time I've ever willingly watched a Presidential debate (classroom stuff I slept through). I must say it wasn't nearly as bad or painful to watch as I thought it would be, but being impatient and having the attention span of a gnat it was still pretty hard to sit still. I kept finding myself air-wringing John Kerry's neck for invoking Vietnam upteen times. STOP IT, YOU BOOB!!! I also often found myself cowering in fear under the bed (watched in the guestroom) almost everytime Bush spoke. For someone talking about being optimistic, that was certainly a "mixed message, mixed signal." Kerry had a few gotcha moments for Bush but kept it professional and didn't go the distance to left-wing nutterness. I found the make-nice moments they kept having absolutely surreal. Maybe there's something that stays with you for life when you've been a member of the Skull and Crossbones...

I won't give a letter grade 'cause I think it's clear Kerry won this first debate easily by whatever margin you want to give it (the margin is subjective anyway).

                    • I thought Kerry did a very good job -- looked presidential, which is very important.

I was a little disappointed in Bush in that he seem flustered at time and he didn't hammer Kerry on obvious inconsistencies, such as

                      1) Yes I voted for authorization to go to war, but the ONLY difference I have is that Bush should have done this and that and the other thing, before he went to war; and

                      2) The Iraq war was a colossal mistake. Bush should have focused on Afghanistan....

These two positions don't add up. But Bush didn't hammer it home.

                      • Oh yeah, another major failing of our media and this debate commission - not one question about how we got in this mess. No, not just Iraq, but the last 40-50 years...

A "flip-flop" in this context is a flippant remark the conservatives have made the insult dujour with regards to Kerry. It's saying one thing, then coming back later and saying its supposed opposite. I think Kerry had a very nice counter to such a concept, but he didn't put it in place. That you can hold one view, but adjust that view as facts and information come along allowing you to more finely craft your view to make it work better. The "staying the course" bit assumes that no facts will come along, no new information will be found, that the status quo will remain unchallenged. Short-sighted at best, dangerous at worst.

                              • Kerry won the debate, but not as well as he should have considering how bad Bush is at debating.
