However, I don't think the whole "I'm a pediatrician" angle is going to work on my classmate.

She is established here. She'll almost certainly become a professor at Ohio State once she finishes her Ph.D. next year. She is not looking to get married.

I doesn't matter if she's established or not. She's over 30 and from an East Asian country, so she's pretty much unmarriable at home. If she wants to find someone, she has to go overseas and get some foreigner to marry her, as many other women do. It looks like you're her prime target.

I hope I'm wrong on this one, but I doubt it. Good luck, though.

Just curious, I know the American Asian culture pretty well but don't know the Asian culture at all. I had never picked up on this, even with the asian women around here. My first thoughts were that if she was working on her PHD, she would probably have been working too much and been into her career to meet guys.

Some thing with Pimp Guynemer, I find the feat of becoming a doctor, the physical committment alone, is an insane feat.

Though, I find the "alarm bells" of her actually wanting to go on a second date to be a little cynical. Maybe she is looking to have fun and thinks he is a nice guy???

Yeah, it's 30, in Japan at least. Consequently, you get a ton of 28/29 year olds who held off on marriage for too long and are now desperately looking for someone to marry.

My first thoughts were that if she was working on her PHD, she would probably have been working too much and been into her career to meet guys.

That's what I think, too. Doesn't change the fact that she's got a lifetime of culture pressure telling her that she 1) has to be married and have a family to be successful and 2) is pretty much out of time to find a husband.

Of course, things could be completely different in Korea and I could be talking out my ass. Where's Boshko when you need him?
