Stalin is responsible for Chechnian mess. It's him who deported them and made them hate Moscow even more than thye did before.

USSR wasn't a "motherland" to Chechenians, to Ukrainians, to Lithuanians or Latvians. It was occupying their motherlands. That's why many of them supported
Germany. It's sad, and some of the mentioned did a lot of harm to Polish people, and generally fought on the wrong side, but Soviet side wasn't any better. The fight between USSR and III Reich wasn't a fight between the good and the evil, it was a fight between less wrong and more wrong.

I doubt it is a "www" against Islam. But true, invading the school is not only immoral, but simply stuped; Russia is not cowardly Spain or Philippines, that has to be said, and its interests in Chechenia are more vital than of those in Iraq. Also, it will make them unpopular all over the world.

Don't judge entire religion by acts of some of its members. If the ulama apporved that en masse, or if the streats of Muslim cities covered in crowds scanding: kill those kids, or if in al-Qur'an it was written: invade that Russian school, You could lose sympathy to Islam.

They got no FOOD, and sooner or later, they're gonna get hungry. Want food...sure, I can help you with that....let some kids go, and its burgers and fries all around (or whatever ethnically pleasing food would be appropriate).

The children will die of hunger first. Also, it may cause canibalism, and guess who'd be the victims.Of course, eventually they'd have to give up, but first all the children would be dead.

Chechnya had full autonomy after the first Chechen rebellion. Islamist extremists than attacked Dagestan, a heavily muslim area of Russia that was content with the political status quo.

Which is not enough to blame the Chechenians entirely for the war.

And because Islam is a decentralised religion, even if one iman says that suicide bombers will not go to paradise but will rot in hell, another wanting to push his agenda will give his blessings to them.

That's another reason to allow to build the pan-islamic theocratic state, ressurecting caliphate

Just one thing - it seems women play a bigger role amongst Chechen terrorists than in the ME, or am I wrong? Are there any reasonable explanations why this is the case?

Saving the children should take priority over storming the school to look tough. If the Russians fancy their chances at a successful assault, then by all means go for it.

If an assault can't be carried out successfully, then don't do it. Negotiate, let it drag out. The children's lives are top priority.

I don't know if I can agree. Negotiations, especially succesful, mean that they can be successful. And we should not let the terrorists to get that feelings. It's not a matter of children of this school only, but also of the children in other schools. The objective is to teach the attackers they'll get nothing of using such means.

You are confused. By American rules, in order for Russia to prevent Chechen terrorism, they'd have to invade Bulgaria. It's as simple as 2+2=4.

Of European states, Poland seems to be the most pro-Chechen. At least used to be.

Civilized means you fight the enemy with superior technology, not by sending in your own people to suicide bomb.

Though I have to say, defensive technology has been seriously lagging the last hundred years. While we've gone from bullets to nukes, large-scale armor has yet to make it past concrete walls.

You can do a lot of damage to a country without deliberately attacking civilians. There are plenty of hard targets which aren't guarded whih you can hit when no one is around. The Weather Underground and the FLN both refrained from killing anyone but themselves in their bombing campagins in the U.S. in the 1970s and 1980s.
