  • What are you talking about? We're fighting in the wars.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

(I kept waiting for the Bush daughters to stumble through their speech and say something like "...but the most important thing we learnt from Daddy Bush is....Cocaine and Heroine are GREAT ways to forget we're this buffoon's kids! Just remember kids, NEVER mix your drugs!" (insert stupid bush daughter nervous laugh here)

      • Arnold's speech = 100% fluff, 0% substance.

Nothing about the issues...all vague references to why America is so cool, and then somehow magically transferring said coolness to the Shrub.

I shuddered when I saw all those "four more years" signs, too.

What are they putting in the water?

FOUR MORE YEARS? You gotta be kidding me!

In that length of time we'll have started at least one more war, not gotten out of the other two, and completely alienated the last of our friends.

        No thanks.

EDIT: To say nothing of the state of the economy after four more years of high tech job losses being replaced by Mickey D's Fry Cooks....

You mean true republican believe in the heavy hand of the state putting onerous regulations on poor property and business owners? Or that they back quotas that increase racism instead of fighting it?

Americans politics is largely about emotions. Rational arguments don't sway people from one position to another. Repugs will be Repugs and Dumbos will be Dumbos. Moderates will pretend to be morally superior to both, but really have their thumb up their asses just like everyone else.

                          • Gotta disagree with you, Che.

Sure, emotionality plays a role. Undeniably. And I'll even agree that appeals to emotion are a powerful means of persuasion....But to say that the only reason we hold this or that position is because of those emotions....not buying it.

And what did you expect? The democrats convention was equally lacking substance. That's what conventions have evolved into. The only difference between the two is that the democrats paint a negative picture because they want change. i.e. their man to be president. The republicans paint a positive picture because they want no change, i.e. their man to be president.

Anyone that expects anything else to happen is naive.

Mindless pratter to play on emotions.

My issue is the ugliness of the demonstrators. It's one thing to dissagree but it's another to threaten, obscenely insult, and all the other ugly things they have done. It's a black eye on NYC and the Democratic party.

All that money wasted for THAT?!

We got more important stuff to do with the cash...if that's all they're gonna use it for, let's skip the conventions and do something useful with the coin.
