"Old Europe" anyone? What about the commentary of the Republican Congress, even down to "Freedom Fries." The U.S. government said quite a number of rude and derrogatory things about France.

The French people said rude and derrogatory things about our government, and that's fine, because we say rue and derrogatory things about our government. AFAIK, American hasn't become the insult in France that French has in America.

Oh, old Europe, what a horrible thing to say. And oh yeah, the Congress renamed a food item in the cafeteria. Compare that to the supposedly allied French government actively undermining and opposing US foreign policy on a matter we felt important to our national security.

What do you mean American isn't seen as bad as France? The French for a very long time have insulted as stupid, overweight, ugly uncultured people. Of course, the left never seems to take offense to any of that, but cries bloody murder and gets outraged whenever someone dares joke back about the French.

Which French? Remember, when we landed in Africa in 1943, the French open fire on us. They certainly do not treat us like liberators or as allies.

Ditto much of France itself in 1944. The French did not appear to be very happy to see us despite the newsreel footage we often see from Normandy. They rather appear to be behaving as if we conquered France rather than liberated it.

Well, liberators or not, we had to **** up the place royally to get the Germans out. The pre Normabdy strategic bombing was ruthless (nessecary). The Iraqis are dealing with this now.

So mentally did the French understand this at the time, probobly when they stopped to think about it. Did they stop to think about it while they were rumaging through theri bombed out house? Probobly not.

France avoided most of the heavy strategic bombing of the war. It was conquered before it was nessecary or the tactics were even practiced by any side. After we invaded the Germans were in no position to do so themselves, nore did they need to as France's industry did not start up again untill after the war. We, the allies, did the majority of ariel bombardment over France
