The Battle of Avincourt involved the loss of a lot of French Knights. I forget off the top of my head when it occurred, but it appears by the picture that it happened in the same timeframe.

You may be right - I'm just reflecting off the top of my head here.

            • Is it the Battle of Hastings, 1066?

              • It's probably a battle fought in Eastern Europe or the Balkans- the gentleman in the far right lower corner has what looks like a composite bow on the Mongol or Turkish model rather than an English longbow, and the older man with the Patriarchal style beard is wielding a sword that looks like a cross between a scimitar and the kind of weapon the Dacians used against the Romans.

However the picture's not large enough for me to make out any more details, although the presence of what looks like women might indicate a siege, or an encampment caught by surprise.

Not enough geographical detail in the background for me to make out anything either- except what looks like a wayside cross to the right.

Could be siege of Acre, Jerusalem, Adrianople, Antioch, Aleppo....

                • Hmmm...another clue is that there is a crucifix statue in the upper right hand corner.

There also appears to be a woman in the middle of the shot clutching a baby

EDIT: oh you already saw the cross

Give us a clue, there's not much to go on, nondescript mediaeval dress notwithstanding.

                        Not Kossovo, I suppose?

Just looking at the bearded by himself, what would you guess he is?

I had actually guessed the event (but then I cheated to make sure).
