Well here are the answers:


the two murdered monarchs associated with this place are:

Edward Martyr, the Saxon king, murdered here (supposedly, since he has a church dedicated to him here),

and Edward II, although he was murdered elsewhere, but only held prisoner here.


it was a favourite residence of King John, known as Lackland, the monarch forced to accede to the demands of the English barons at Runnymede and sign Magna Carta

it was given/sold by Elizabeth I to her courtier Sir Christopher Hatton


and it withstood two sieges in the English Civil Wars,

and it's located in Dorset, in the Isle of Purbeck (which in true British fashion, isn't an isle, but a peninsula).



It's Corfe Castle, which if any of you are coming to the British Isles, you shouldn't miss, both because of the still impressive grandeur of the ruins, and the charm and beauty of its natural setting, and also its association with one of the most famous sieges of the English Civil Wars.

Good question. I think he was moved several times before being immured in Berkeley, the problem being that no one wanted a Royal prisoner (or responsibility for a Royal death) on their hands- he was, despite the rubbish portrayed in 'Braveheart', a king held in affection by some of his people.


The poker was so that people could be shown a dead body, without any overt marks of violence, and without Royal blood having been spilled.


Certainly, I don't think he was as varied in his residences as Mary Queen of Scots was when she was held captive/a Royal guest in England.
