My father quit after 25+ years. Says he can smell things again (like flowers, etc), which I found surprising. When you stop smoking, the world opens up again. Like a short-sighted person putting on glasses for the first time.

However, the habit of putting something in the mouth remains. You have to replace that habit with something else. My father eats peppermints (no its not to hide the breath of smoke! he really has quit! besides peppermints wouldn't hide the smell of smoke!).
He probably goes through a bag of peppermints twice a week. (There's probably about 100 in each bag).

        Try it!

Yeah I need something that I do when I would normally smoke. Perhaps I could suck on something too. But nothing super bad for you, peppermints sounds actually pretty good, I might try it, thanks for the tip!

              Good luck to you all

I've quit smoking myself. I started by switching to snuff ("snus"), just to get my nicotine fix. Now I've almost quit that too. But there are still certain situations where I can't cope without it, like when I'm fishing, writing or driving a car.

Just trolling you a bit, Pekka. Maybe "self-confident" is a better term.

Right. I admit I might sometimes get blurred by a word that would indicate me being of something with negative connotations and lose the forrest from the tree . I try to be better.

I feel like I should smoke. THe feeling is not strong. But there is a feeling that now I would normally smoke the latest. Let's see, I'll fight this brain fixation and obsession, I submit them and choke them out of my brain. They have no chance. I simply hit too hard.

smoked for a bit, from time to time. Never developed a dependency. Drank a lot, same thing.

Don't carry around any change. You won't be able to buy them, and soon, you won't smoke.

I'm going to a party tonight...this is going to be the first true test of my self-control.

Pekka: Chew some gum...it gives you something to do in place of what you would normally be doing...its certainly helped me, especially on long drives.

Not buying filter ( by this I mean pre-made) cigarettes helps too.

Walk from one city to the next. Tiring, exhausting, but satisfying and actually quite distracting.

Nothing like walking 26 km in 3 and a half hours.

Well maybe in Singapore, because you can pass 100+ key landmarks and roads and features within a certain route of that.

Or maybe I'm a youth with a lot of time.

Then I'd suggest going into chili. I mean, no crazy person smokes with tons of hot chili burning in one's mouth, right? Sort of like you don't drink hot water with chili, either...I think. I never smoked before, so I don't know.

The reason for revolt now thunders; and at last ends the age of "can't"
Away with all your superstitions -servile masses, arise, arise!
We'll change forthwith the old conditions And spurn the dust to win the prize
