One of the report said he is just a normal kid in Cuba.

However at his 10th year birthday party the entire school that he attends came to his party, and of course since he is just a normal kid in Cuba, F. Castro show up for the party and help Elian blow out his candle on his birthday cake.

Also Elian was invited to the Communist Party get together.

Just a normal kid growing up in Cuba. I sure hope Clinton and Co. feel good about this.
    Don't be dissin' Clinton

Elian looked happy to me. And the home they were living in looked just as good as american homes. They weren't living in squalor. If he grew up in Miami, he'd probably turn into a gang banger.

communism is stupid, but that doesn't mean the people of Cuba are stupid. It used to be a great country.

It's obvious we can't stamp out communism completely. We should just accept it.

      Lift sanctions now!

Hey, you can go and visit him every year, oh wait, it's only every four years now, isn't.

The same reason it's stupid to dislike anyone on the basis of who they are rather than what they've done.

I'm just flabbergasted you'd advocate taking a kid away from his own father just to score a victory against Castro.

Even if Castro is using the kid, so long as Elian is living a healthy, happy life (which he very much appears to be), so what? Isn't it the interest of the child that matters most?

So you have no respect for a father's right to be with his kid, or a kid's right to be with his dad, or the rule of law... and who are you trying to help here?

If I can prove I can provide a better life for someone else's kids because I'm wealthier, healthier and/or smarter, should I be allowed to steal their kid if he wanders into my yard?

also I think it is more important for a boy to be raised by a man, not some screaming women in Miami. There are too many mama's boys already.

Without a mother in the picture the father has custody.

Stealing children from their parents is no way to make a point.

It sickens me that some people here would suggest doing so unless sending the child back meant a great likelihood of death or physical abuse.

Like if the country was in famine.

Oh wait: you would have sent him back if that was the case.

I guess because he'll grow up to be an evil Communist it's best to take him.

yes those poor innocent Albanians who are the gateway for the drug trade in europe, receive al qaeda support, and target women and children. The Serbs were fighting terrorists... get a clue.

What do you think the US is doing in Iraq? More civilians have died in Iraq than civilians killed by the Serbs in Kosovo and Bosnia.

You are just using Elian Gonzalez to make a political point against Castro. The kid isn't a tool. He deserves to live with his father, considering his mother died. Was his father abusive? No. Oh wait, he might be a communist. So then we need to kidnap the children of "communists".

Why don't you go to North Korea and kidnap children you hypocrit.

I guess that's why almost all Cubans would rather die than be ruled by another Batista.

cuban americans are the whiniest people i can think of(besides native americans in respect to their welfare checks). If cuba wasnt run by castro they wouldnt even be here. the minute the country is overthrown they are going back. they have no love for america otherwise they wouldnt waste their time trying to change cuba

It's hard to believed to see what some of you guys wrote supporting Castro. None of you were alive when Castro took over, I was. None of you can remember when thousand of Cuban were leaving Cuba in the late night to head to American so they would not be shot leaving. None of you were alive when Castro was sending Cuban Troops to African and South America to start wars so Communism could take over in several countries, I was.

I guess the end is that I grew up in another time.

When I was born, there was only one Communist country, the Soviet Union. The East Bloc did not fall until 1948, 49, and 50 for Asia.

When I serve in the Navy, we knew who the enemy was and it was Communism. When I was in Korea my gun was loaded and I was told to shoot first and then we would fine out it was OK.

For Diss., I worked on the Enterprise when you were 3 years old.

Slava if I had the money and know how, lot's of family would be leaving N. Korea each and every night. So fvck off.

Joseph, you just think communism is bad because of a "us Vs. them" mentality and propaganda.

Joseph, please enlighted us as to how wonderful, peaceful, honest and non-murderous the rule of Batista was in Cuba. We'd love to hear.

I guess the end is that I grew up in another time.
Yep, a time of mass hysteria fed by government propaganda and McCarthyism. Looks like it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks.
