But making it illegal will not stop them saying it, and 1950's was a different environment to today by a long way. The majority of the population now will not remember World War II and I dare say many prospective BNP supporters have little or no understanding of fascism.

I'd rather they say it in the open and get shouted down, than say it behind closed doors, allowing it to spread. Society has plenty more ways of making such speech unacceptable. I refer merely to the expression of those views, not incitement.

I actually think the BBC should take Nick Griffin's offer of a 30minute program about the Qaran (and why he thinks its evil), and invite a few respected Imam's on live TV.. ha ha ha .. something tells me he wouldn't take the offer up.

I wanna see Nick Griffin and that Abu Hamza bloke in a "celebrity" deathmatch (Well, they're about as big celebrities as in any other celebrity reality show). Loser's followers leave the country.

Laz, no .. nick did not say he wanted to kill Pakistani's .. he said he wanted to deal with muslims !! YES , i did watch it .. I cannot recall the exact quote (please do if you have it), but it was something along the lines of "Slaying the Islamic dragon" , which knowing the BNP means kill pakistanis .. but he did not specifically say so.

the issue about rapes is typical propaganda .. but as I said in my previous post, i wish the BBC would take him up on his offer.

The argument about shouting FIRE is certainly a novel one .. Im sure we've debated this before now off topic, but politicians spend a living shouting FIRE .. so to the media .. we cannot be selective about which person shouts it and which does not ..

eg "Iraq can deploy wmd in 40 mins" ... FIRE ????

You wasted precious seconds of your life on typing that. It states the obvious no fewer than four times, and has absolutely no relevance to the point I made- namely that censorship does not automatically result in increased support.

Please.....save paragraphs like that for those who need it.

The reason BBC won't do Griffin On The Koran, is because it would give him extra political support. A lot of this country dislikes the way Muslims and their ilk are hijacking our political process, our culture, and our benefits system.

Sorry, don't debate with me when I'm stoned Censorship won't automatically result in increased support but it won't assist those of us who are trying to critique that support. If it's illegal, it makes ones argument sound academic, and yet, it may still spread. I'd much rather it was in the open.

The reason BBC won't do Griffin On The Koran, is because it would give him extra political support. A lot of this country dislikes the way Muslims and their ilk are hijacking our political process, our culture, and our benefits system.
"Our benefits system" is the governments problem as it does not allow asylum seekers to work. How many other white people take advantage of the benefits system? You need to seriously revise your thinking before you associate Islam with benefit fraud.

Our culture? They've added to it over hundreds of years and I see it happening now, when unaffected by the hostility of people like the BNP, whereupon cultural creativity becomes dualistic sociological hostility.

Our political process? I think you need to explain that one? You *honestly* think that Islam represents any threat to british democracy, except by the reactionist measures employed by nationalists and their likeminded?

Furthermore I think you should stop referring to this "lot of the country" "majority" "silent majority" BS that you cannot substantiate and I'm willing to bet are unrepresentative of in any case, and yet you still have provided me with no reason for it to be used as a source of contextual political truth upon which to run a society in the first place!!

Hijacking 'our' culture (hilarious really, from the person whose culture can best be seen in the Poly poster picture thread of him in Greece looking like chavscum) ?

More to the point, are you incuding all Muslims, the way, say, you might if you took Obi Gyn as a paradigm for a Christian in politics?

But more importantly- what Class A drugs are you taking that enable you to spew such ill-informed inflammatory sh!te all the time?

                              Barclays Bank bans BNP accounts

Reporter Gwynne (l) filmed BNP leader Mr Griffin (r) covertly
Barclays Bank has frozen the accounts held by the far-right British National Party.
The move is believed to be in response to a BBC documentary, The Secret Agent, which showed BNP members confessing to racially motivated crimes.

The bank has not confirmed the decision but the BNP's John Walker said he had received a call from the bank informing him that the accounts are to be closed.

BNP leader Nick Griffin said the move was "absolutely scandalous".

Mr Walker said that he was unaware whether any other banks that hold party funds would follow suit.

But Mr Griffin said the party may find it difficult to open accounts with other banks.

He described the move by Barclays as an "attempt to ban it by the back door".

He said a member of the party's treasury department was informed about the freezing of their accounts on Friday afternoon.

The legal position of the account closures will be studied, he added.

"If we can, we will take them [Barclays] to the cleaners.

                              Human rights

"We don't want to take them to the cleaners, all we want is the democratic right to access back accounts."

He said: "Barclays may find themselves up against European human rights legislation.

"We have the right to hold political opinions and to impart them."

Mr Griffin said the accounts contained thousands of pounds - "enough money to run a small but effective political party".

The party must have a bank account in Britain to comply with electoral commission regulations.

A Barclays spokeswoman said the company would not comment because of client confidentiality.

However, a bank official said Barclays would consider whether there was a "reputational risk" when it was deciding whether to open or close an account.

                              Tapes reviewed

In the documentary, footage recorded at a meeting in Keighley shows Mr Griffin saying Islam was a "vicious wicked faith" and warning the audience to "stand up" to Muslims.

In an interview on BBC Two's Newsnight programme following Thursday's broadcast of the documentary, Mr Griffin refused to say sorry for his comments and added the "Islamification" of the West had partly happened by rape.

However, he did apologise for comments made by other BNP activists shown on the documentary confessing to race crimes. Three of them have been expelled from the party, Mr Griffin said.

Reporter Jason Gwynne spent six months infiltrating the BNP's West Yorkshire branch with the help of a former local organiser.

West Yorkshire Police and the Crown Prosecution Service, in a joint statement on Friday, said officers were collecting tapes from the programme makers to review.

"The BBC programme (Secret Agent) broadcast last night raises a number of issues which warrant further investigation.

"Working with our colleagues in the Crown Prosecution Service we will be reviewing the material to identify what, if any, information of evidential value it contains and decide on the appropriate action."
                              Hur hur hur.

As far as the bank account closures go, the BNP haven't a leg to stand on. Banks have the right to choose who they conduct business with and can unilaterally close accounts on 30 days notice.
