  • The wonders of ST hand phasers...

    Comment

    • Disrupters fire some sort of energy beam.
      they don't. watch any episode...disruptors aren't beams.

The Borg clearly cannot shield against plasma
Course it can! Plasma rifles are employed by numerous species in ST and all have been assimilated.

The Borg have never used the transporter for combat - why would they start now? They're obviously too stupid.
They can beam their drones anywhere. Inside enemy ships, inside Imperial Walkers, right behind the Storm Troopers lines, etc. The Troopers won't know what hit them.

This is just plain false, and I've addressed it. Do you have to keep repeating the same idiocy over and over?
You haven't adressed this to anyone's satisfaction even once. Fact is, Blasters are puny. And the other weapons are too slow and cumbursome to be used against adversaries who can beam in and out at will.

Fighting in a forest does not make it a guerrilla battle-there were pitched battles (which is the correct term) in forests in the US Civil War. Guerrilla warfare speaks of small bands of insurgents attacking small bands of regularly superior forces and wearing them down. This was not that, but a pitched battle between stone age 3 foot tall bears and an elite legion.

Obviously it wasn't, if there were reinforcements for the base to send out when Solo called.

HELLO! Those were not forces form the legion, but other forces-garrison forces. The number of men was small-but of course, so was the tiny legion.

Why the hell would the Imperials expect a battle, especially one in which air support would be useful? They're in a jungle.

        1. Why would the empire station and entire elite legion? They KNEW a batlte was coming-that is the point of the movie!
        2. If this generator is so important, put some damned backup.

How would higher power settings have changed it?

I don't know-bear hinds behind tree-tree get vaporized-bear has lost his coverage and shileding, bear dies.

Actually, no, according to the literature the legs actually make it able to traverse more varied terrain than wheeled or tracked vehicles. Plus, it's just a glorified APC.
THEY HAVE HOVERCRAFT!!!!! If some small farmer on a desert world can afford a hover vehicle, you would think the imperials could as well.

The literature is bunk- mobility is part of a trinity-any design feature created for mobility that makes a huge and expsinve vehicle extremely vulnerable is a BAD trade-off.

        • How so? Hand phasers never seem to be that powerful...

They can VAPORISE matter in one blast! How much more powerful do you want them to be?!?!

            • Actual power statistics for a phaser would show this is ridiculously false (and I'd say actual observations of phasers hitting things trumps some boast from Riker).
Hardly. Janeway managed to stun an entire group of people with ONE(!!!!) shot in a Voy ep. Again, ST phasers clearly outperform SW blasters.

Stunned. I.e., low power, wide-beam shot.

It doesn't even get into numbers - it talks mostly about weapon design (and how ST phasers are possibly the worst possible design for a gun you actually want to hit stuff with).

Actually, they can't vaporise them. A phaser disrupts the "nuclear binding forces" and creates chain reaction effect, causing more damage to matter than from the actual energy of the beam. Consequently, their effectiveness is largely dependent upon the material being hit with the phaser, and they derive none of this additional power when attacking shields. (As a side note, even if Borg soldiers could shield against blasterfire, it would be far more effective than phasers against the Borg because blasterfire does damage through the energy of the shot and is thus not material-dependent).

                        • All sci-fi weapons suck. When you seem them on TV or movies you realize that a good old fashoined M-16 assault rife would be more effective.

                                1. Given that Imperial Armor is made of plastic and aluminum, I don't think this would not be much of a problem.
                                2. Blasters can;t do much against freaking WOOD! For gods sake, the imperial forces could not even create any shrapnel! At least phasers would have destroyed all the organic materials artound, hence leveling the forest, hence vaporizing the stone age 3 foot tall teddy bears.
