  • What an amazing game. This is what the playoffs is all about.

Iginla is a god. Abolutely amazing. And so is St Louis. I can't believe how these guys are playing. They both deserve MVP.

Me and my buddies are heading down to a local bar Sunday morning to watch the game live.

The bartender is from England. He's put up a Canadian flag, and he's wearing a Flames jersey.

Yeah, when his helmet was off I was thinking, please score a goal cause that would look so cool. He got the assist which is good enough for me.

        • Did you hear the story about Andrew Ferrence being pulled over for speeding last summer. I don't know if this is true, but the story goes: the cop looks at his licence and says "Are you Ferrence the hockey player?"

          Ferrence says "Yeah".

And the cop says: "You were my last pick in my hockey pool, and I won the pool. Get out of here."

            • We can taste it!: Flames can reclaim Cup Saturday after OT victory

              Kerry Williamson
              Calgary Herald

              Friday, June 04, 2004

There is a long list of heroes this playoff run. Martin Gelinas, Jarome Iginla, Marcus Nilson, Steve Montador . . . now, Oleg Saprykin.

The crushin' Russian scored 14 minutes, 40 seconds into overtime, giving the Calgary Flames a 3-2 win, and a 3-2 lead in the Stanley Cup final, a win from the Cup. It was a goal that sent Calgarians into raptures. Elated fans flooded the Red Mile back home the moment the winning puck landed in the net.

Many, including Rob Thomas, were hoarse from cheering their team to the thrilling OT win. "Oh my God, what a game, I can't even scream It's going to be the Flames in six," said Thomas, 19.

Others were drained from nervous excitement. "I'm completely wrung out. I'm a receptionist and there's no way I'll be able to talk tomorrow. But I don't care," said Stacey Simmons, 32.

Back in Florida, Calgarian Darren Carmichael, 25, was beside himself after witnessing the triumph.

"Oh man, we almost broke into tears," said Carmichael. "Look at my buddy. He is in tears! Words can't describe it. You can't even put on paper what it feels like."

His buddy, an Oilers fan, had tears streaming down his face. So did many fans in Calgary, in Canada, even Tampa.

"I love every minute of this," said Mark Payne, 24, tears still welling. "It is so sweet. We spent so much money to get here and it doesn't matter right now because we are going home and we are going to take the Cup on home ice."

Fifteen years ago, the Flames went on the road and won the Stanley Cup. Now, they get a chance to win it in front of their own crowd.

"We're going home, and the Cup won't be far behind," said Dale Keenan, who lives in Miami, but drove to Tampa to see his Flames. "It is only a matter of time."

The Flames will go into Game 6 with history on their side. In 18 previous Stanley Cup finals, the team winning Game 5 after being tied 2-2 has lifted the Cup 14 times.

The noose is now tight around the necks of the Lightning. And Calgary has one gloved hand on the Cup.

For Flames fans in the 22,246-strong Tampa crowd, it was a night to remember.

"We saw the light go on, realized it was a goal, and went nuts," said Doug MacLeod. "It was unbelievable."

"I am completely confident, 100 per cent confident, that we are going to win it all," said Calgarian Justin McNeill, 17, who skipped his high school graduation to be at the game with his father, Ken. "There's no question. Flames in six."

              • Great game and a totally deserved Calgary win-- only Khabibulan kept that game from bcoming a rout early-- Tampa played well in the 3rd and in the OT but as their coach said at the press conference-- when you get outplayed that much, it comes back and bites you in the behind

Hey, you should be on your knees thanking Fraser.

                        • About time that **** got the heave ho. He is has been awful in way too many playoff games. He can be good, but when he's bad it's hard to imagine worse. Game 4 was really bad for many of the penalties called and those not called.

Sadly, it was not due to any "bull****." They only pulled him to avoid the appearance of bias against Calgary, which is not the same as saying Frasier is a ****ing ****head who should not be let anywhere near a hockey game, let alone referee one.

The league still considers him to be their best official.

                            • Why would they worry about an 'appearance' of bias against Calgary?

They never did with the Oilers.

                              • There was a bias against Edmonton?

I guess that's why looking in Gretzky's general direction was a 2-minute minor.
