Would you want your gold to go to the people who killed you?

Simply because the people on the island are of Japanese ancestry means jack****. Russia has ownership of the islands so they are Russian islands. Enough said.

By that logic, the gold is Japan's. Japan has ownership over the gold, so it is Japanese gold. Enough said...

Sure, as long as you can find a Czar to return it to.
BTW - What's the statue of limitation on plundering someone's national treasury?

Word ..... Japan doesn't own the gold, they are just looking after in their bank and are being difficult in giving it back.

Ownership of the gold was never in dispute as far as I'm aware.

              Absolutely.
Why should we pay Tzars's debt while we can't get back some of his property?

              It's a bit unfair aproach.

Stolen, my ass. Those lands belonged to Russia untill Japan stolen them after their war of agression against Russia. If in 2105 Russia will invade Texas, take it from you and if you'll attack Russia later, in 2145 and return Texas back to America, will it be thievery of Russian land "Texas"?

So what. Russia doesn't have it. If they want it back, it would be wise to make it worth Japan's while.

The Tsar was a bloody war criminal. He should have been executed . . . after a trial, of course.

You already repudiated the Tzar's debt. Try harder if you wish the gold back.

You could make the argument that in ownership disputes, custody is 9/10ths of the law.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Unfortunately no. Russia still pay off this debt every year. The Bolshevicks repudiated this debt, but this dumbass Yeltsin, confirmed our obligations after collapse of the USSR and we have to pay off this debt.
So, it's pretty logical to demand property of the person whose debt is laid on owr shoulders. Isn't it?
