  • Gaza is the most difficult place to start for Israel. That's why it was never fully occupied.

NO, Gaza was never occupied because:

    a. There is no real claim to be made base don "ancient Judea" or "reclaiming the God given lands" when it comes to Gaza.

    b. It was too poor and simple too dense to even try.

All the same reasons it is easy and attractive to leave Gaza.

By the same token, the relatively bloodless fall of Baghdad deserved a . Had Baghdad been firebombed Dresden-like, it would have been a very big
Yes, but the point is that the outcome wasn't determined by the decision of Sharon, but rather luck and the competence of Israeli troops. So all you're complimenting is that.

Newsflash - Gaza was occupied between 67 and 94.

I was explaining the reasons why the IDF never fully reoccupied Gaza since 2002.

He had more respect for Arabs that most Israeli politics. He is the only one that has seen them as equals with similar wishes.

          • Israel did occupy Gaza city, for a lot of time. It's because Israel didn't have any choice. Saddat was smart and didn't want it. Personally I think we should have made it a necessary condition. It doesn't occupy it now.

Sharon is removing the settlements, so I assumed by occuaption you meant the level of settlement, NOT Israeli military control.

Since Gaza is easy to fence of, there simply was no military need for a complete occupation like in the West bank.

              • Not only that. Taking Gaza city by force, would be very bloody right now. It's by an order of magnitude larger than any west bank city.

It's not easy - it's already fenced off.

We're sadly only now building a fence between us and the west bank.

Given that they KNOW that its more of a problem for the US if they mention it first, I think they would do the US the favor and NOT mention it.

                    Act first, ask permission later.
