It was Gore's idiotic campaigning that really did it. If he embraced Clinton (who was wildly popular at the time), he would have won handily. Instead he was afraid that some people thought Clinton wasn't that good because of his affairs (who voted for Bush anyway).

Nader won't win, and he won't influence the Democrats. I don't know why the Greens bother.

HIs campaing was not stellar, you are correct, but the election was lost because of all the messes in the electoral system, the one in Florida not being the only one with porblems, but having the worse problems.

I remember all the polls done, and actually stories before the election from the Republicans wondering what would they do if they won the popular vote but Gore won the election .....

They don't- Nader would be running independently...read the article!

Did they? His party got far less a percentage of the vote than they had been anticipating. Besides, they were voting for the party, not the man.

Again...why isn't Nader being vetted by the Greens? Answer: They want nothing to do with him after 2000.

Yeah. In Texas, only dead natives can win.

That's the immediate blame yes, but when you are looking for SOMEONE to blame, Gore shoots up over Nader.

His party got far less a percentage of the vote than they had been anticipating. Besides, they were voting for the party, not the man.

Highly doubt it. The Greens have NEVER gotten over 1% before Nader and they won't afterwards. His 'party' was expecting too high a percentage, just like the Republicans and Democrats have been known to do.

why isn't Nader being vetted by the Greens?

'Cause they are a bunch of morons who'd rather prefer 'ideological purity' and go back to only getting 1%.

Maybe Perot will throw his hat into the ring too. What a combination they could be, the feisty, slightly mad, texas billionaire and the loopy tree-hugger. I can see it now, a Perot/Nader ticket sweeping to victory in 04.

It wasn't until a few months ago the Greens decided they weren't going to run a presidential candidate. Up to that point, they were debating Nader or nobody. The Greens are not pissed at Nader, just the Democrats.
