Maybe they wanted the fantasy, but just roleplaying, not actually death. Or maybe he was working up to it. I doubt he'd start off by killing someone, usually these things take time to develop, from more 'mild' activities, up to cannibalism.

Interesting how the thread title still wasn't changed. Adds Ming to the list of anti-Europeans on this board.

I wonder what would happen if I opened a thread called "Jews gone crazy" about 1 or 2 Israeli citizens doing this or that. Wouldn't it be closed immediately? I demand a moderator's response.

German law recognizes the individual's right to decide upon euthanasia.

Therefore wanting to die does not make the person legally insane.

Zoroastrians, millions of them, choose by their religion not to bury their dead but to feed them to vultures.

I would suggest that all Zoroastrians are not insane. They are likely just as repulsed by the notions of burial and cremation, which they would view as worse than unnatural.

The legal penalty sounds about right. 8.5 years & manslaughter.

Both crazy as loons, but not in the legal sense...

i thought it was funny that there doesn't seem to be a law on the books banning cannibalism, which forced them to charge him with manslaughter instead.

He could be charged for profanating a dead corpse. But hey, he had his consent, so he was only accomplishing the deceased last will...

The court's decision seems fair to me. Killing someone who asked for it, seriously and repeatedly, is like euthanasia. Criminal, but not as bad as raw murder.

This sounds like a Catch-22. Euthanasia is legal in Germany. However if one requests euthanasia, the person is determined by law to be legally insane and therefore incapable of giving valid consent. Therefore anybody who kills a person who requests euthanasia is at least guilty of manslaughter.

Ecthelion, methinks you protest too much about the thread title given the numbers of anti-American and anti-Bush thread titles that we Americans have to put up with.

If a guy asks you to rob his bank, does that make it any less of a criminal act?

                      ---

What is "sane", legally? And what should it be anyway? I don't find it at least too far fetched that the same productive citizen in society can want to be eaten. Now, I do think he's a sick ****, but I think the same of a lot of other people without calling them insane.
