Any particular reason you're repeating my posts, Obiwan?
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

I saw slowwys posts, and I've seen the Mountaintop, but not the Letter in a Birmingham jail.
Will edit.

I wish he could see how things are where I live, in Southwark, now. OK England is not the USA and Southwark is not Alabama. But here he would daily see small white kids hand in hand with small black kids hand in hand with small yellow kids and hand in hand of kids of every hue.
And, what is more, they are still in mixed race groups in their teens and twenties.
And I wish he could see the generation of mixed race kids around me. Some of the most physically beautiful young people I see.
It has reached the point that I sometimes find it a surprise when a remark is made which draws attention to some neighbour's colour because it has not occurred to my eye to register the shade of their skin. So completely have many people integrated. So the first (and second and third and fourth) thing I notice about them is our shared Englishness, not their skin colour.
I know perfectly well that such a state of affairs is not yet general. And no doubt it will take a long time for such attitudes to penetrate Alabama.
But people do follow where city dwellers lead.
For all that we have lost the wonderful fervour and certainties of the sixties his dream seems a lot closer to realisation to-day than it did.
Glad to know there is a bit of liberality in you, Slowwhand.

bull****... the Republican party position on race relations mirrors King's position... integration and a colour-blind society.
it's the Left that constantly brings attention to race.
(and when it comes to the means by which blacks should become economically empowered, it is the Republicans who mirror the sentiments of the black nationalists... don't do drugs, have a stable, traditional family, get an education, work hard, start your own business, etc. the door is opened, thanks to men like MLK and Malik. it's just a matter of going through.)

I just remember my baptism. I had invited some of my friends, and in one car we had:
1 Russian, 1 English Canadian (me), 1 Malaysian and 1 Korean. All going to the same church.
I love the city I live in with all the different people from all the different parts of the world, and I think Dr. King would love to live here too.

walking down the street in my neighbourhood, all i see are Blacks and puerto ricans. oh yeah and the chinese people at the chinese store. not a single whitey in sight.
'tis beautiful
but that aint what MLK was about. there's only a few areas in philly that got a diverse demagraphic. aside from these few areas, all you got is black quarters, spanish quarters, black and spanish quarters, italian/irish/russian/greek quarters, and jewish quarters.

What's the value of all these quarters, as relates to the American dollar and Euro?

Speer, you indirectly illustrate a great point... it's not that Republicans are pure racists, or that Democrats are... American society is not a melting pot. Everyone doesn't MIX together or integrate as MLK wanted. They seperate... and are (dare I use this term) segregate.
We have had some progress towards tolerance and some integration, but don't fool yourself into thinking Republicans are champions of race relations. Republicans are the party of corporate elitism and dominance... most of the Democratic party is too... it's just that a lot of southern conservatives who are closer towards being racists are part of the repukes party. I do feel that sometimes Republicans are unfairly cast as hardcore racists. To be fair, the only color they care about is green.
But since they are *******s, you won't hear me defending them too often.
