Let's be fair. Mariah just had a nervous breakdown. Mormons, OTOH, believe that Jesus visited a lost colony of Jews in the New World, a group that later buried golden plates in upstate New York telling people of later generations to move to the most god forsaken state in the Union. They also have more than one wife, which is just plain crazy. Marriage is punishment for shoplifting in some countries, but these wacky ****s want to double up on it...

Several conservative Christian advocacy groups are pressing Mr. Bush to go further and use the State of the Union address to champion a constitutional amendment prohibiting same-sex marriage.

As far as I can tell, in DC there are two things a President can do to look like he's actively working on something while, in truth, not doing a damn thing but pandering to his base*

1. Start a "Presidential Commission" to analyze the problem and give it a two year mandate.
2. Express support for a Constitutional Amendment knowing that the process is so lengthy and drudgery-ridden that supporters of the amendment feel daunted just looking at the immense task ahead of them.

So don't worry about it (the amendment, that is).

*And yes, I know that W hasn't gone along with this idea yet.
