"The latest eruption spewed out nearly 240 cubic miles of debris."

Yea, that's a lot more devestating than the worst nuclear winter estimates.

There's no reason to be alarmed yet. Wait untill Tom Ridge starts telling everyone not to worry and just go about their business...that's when I'll know it's time.

Is anyone preparing Bruce Willis for this? How do you plug up a caldera?

OK, so imagine for a moment that the US Geological Survey decide Yellowstone is going to blow next year. The President goes on TV and declares a state of emergency and......

What exactly can anyone do (apart from jump the co-worker you always wanted to)?

I can find plenty of things to worry about that I can actually do something about.

Throw Ann Coulter in. The ***** is so cold she'll stall the whole process for a few hundred years at least.
                  What?

For a comparison, the 1980 Mt. Saint Helens eruption...um...launched...a "paltry" two-thirds of a cubic mile.

So we're talking 360 Helens eruptions in a single shot.

                        No biggie.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

I think the only solution is to rip the surface off of the caldera and the surrounding lands, and hope that with that much surface area we don't get the same effects that a point breakthrough would give.
