As a foreigner, I sincerely hope he gets elected. It will be better for all of us- including Americans, who may not always realize the accumulation of hatred towards them in the international community.
Oncle B, Dean was wrong not because he said that OBL should get a fair trial, but because he essentially said that WE should not try him but the the Hague should, because that means Osama bin Laden would not get the death penalty if found guilty. To most Americans, this is simply outrageous.

I thought most Americans were now in fact against the death penalty.

Also how do you propose that Osama bin Laden is supposed to get a fair trial in the US. Especially considering that the persons convicted of the first attempt on the WTC were probably the victims of an FBI sting operation.

The idea that you can trick someone into being participants in a crime, provide them with the materials, provide them with immunity from intervention by authorities, and provide them with know how - and then let them be tried while the agent who fooled them into the crime is at the same time used as a key witness or his story (affidavit?) as key evidence, strikes me as not being in accordance with the jurisprudence laid down by the traditions of either Roman nor Germanic law. Although it may be in perfect accordance with British Imperial Law?

You thought wrong... VERY wrong. I think the last numbers still had around 65-70% in favor of the DP.

Didn't George W. Bush dodge the service during Vietnam War too?

Clinton instituted the greatest policy scheme for the prevention of a future terrorist attack on the US, after the bombings of the African embassies. Clinton, I suppose, did not have the power to install the dirctor of the FBI. However he did have the power of installing George Tenet as director of the CIA. He was however ignored by the Republicans as he tried to warn the Bush administration of a possible attack. These warnings were ignored. The fact that the Bush team since tried to make Tenet the fall guy for the wrong intelligence info on Saddam's lack of WMD possesion is further testimony to the fact that the whole process has been overly politicized by the Republicans, and that to an extent where it has endangered the security of not only the US (as seen), but also valuable allies.
