its cool, this WAS about Frances new head scarf law, and i sorta threadjacked it - I'll stop with that now.
Vive la France! Fooey on Chirac! Keep drinking Aussie wine! May every western democracy do with headscarves as it sees fit. Thanks to France for finding an issue where George Bush looks more liberal then them.

I do. There is no reason to 'ban' anything Nazi. It's counterproductive and it is antithecal to free speech. Oh, boo ****ing hoo, they were bastards and now you don't want to hear anything about them anymore... where is your banning of anything USSR-related? Where is you banning of anything Genghis Khan related?
And what the Nazi's did was a million-fold worse than the Confederates? Ask a black person in America. Centuries of slavery (which the Confederates were defending) are just as bad, if not worse, than the Holocaust.

The systematic destruction of millions of Jews IS way worse than slavery of blacks.
You are dangerously close to fitting in the "Hitler wasn't so bad after all, and the Holocaust was exagurated"-crowd.

Oh Bull! Centuries of slavery of blacks, ripping them away from their homes, treating them like dung and chattel, and killing off millions is worse than killing 7 million?

Ah yes... the old if someone questions anything about Nazi Germany they are an anti-semite rag. That is the problem with banning things. It leads to such irrational discussion.
I wonder why someone should ban this? Everyone knows it is wrong, but it provides an insight into the anti-semite. It allows you to explore the problem rather than cover it up.
You are dangerously close to fitting the "slavery wasn't so bad at all, the blacks ended up better for it" crowd.

Quoting Mein Kampf to illustrate just how history seemed to be repeating itself cannot be against the law even in Holland, can it?
As to you Frenchmen, the things you have said about demonstrations of others "faith" as being offensive and un-Frenchlike sounds to the untrained ear exactly like what Hitler had to say about the Jews who dressed like Jews - they were not German. The attitude is virtually identical.

Actually it is... 'free speech' indeed .

Let me make perfectly clear - while I consider the holocaust historically unique for a variety of reasons, i dont like "my genocide was worse than your genocide discussions" as they seem to be pointless.
The tragedy of slavery and that of the Shoah were very different, and arguably incommensurable.
If that makes it hard to fully discuss the impact of european laws on free speech, thats too bad.

But, all this shows is that Bush acted primarily to defend the US (and France), not to liberate Iraq. Had the US, or the world for that matter, been TRULY concerned over the plight of the Iraqi people, it would have acted in '91 when it had the opportunity.
Shows he lied about his reasons when asking us to support him. There's no reason we would accept that. Also bear in mind that France didn't see Iraq as a threat and therefore had no reason to do anything on this ground.
The excuse of the insurgency preventing the discovery is a joke. It just shows that the war was no better there than the inspectors.

As for me, I never said demonstrating others faith looked offensive, but that exposing one's faith verges proselytism. If peole want to proselytise or show they are of a given faith or have certain opinions, it's ok for them to do so.

How did Bush lie? He openly said that the reason we had to go to war with Saddam was too disarm him because he was a threat not only to international peace but to the United States.

That is somewhat how we think in the United States. It does not seem to be the prevailing view in France though where there appears to be a premium on cultural uniformity and indeed cultural purity.
