  • Racist TV commercials

On TV commercials, they have plenty of Caucasians, African-Americans, and Asians. They usually have quite a diverse crowd of people. Especially when they're showing some sort of educational video to young school kids, the main character usually has every one of his friends a different ethnicity. But, of course they are still racist. They hardly ever show Latinos on commercials. When was the last time you saw one on a TV commercials? And they're the leading minority in population! Also, there are never any mixed relationships on TV. I have only seen like two movies with mixed relationships, and in only one it wasn't an issue and they never mentioned anything was unusual about it.

Another thing is on all the commercials of laundry detergent, dishwashing accessories, or any housecleaing product, they always have women doing the work. Like guys never do their own dishes, laundry, or clean house.
"The first man who, having fenced off a plot of land, thought of saying, 'This is mine' and found people simple enough to believe him was the real founder of civil society. How many crimes, wars, murders, how many miseries and horrors might the human race had been spared by the one who, upon pulling up the stakes or filling in the ditch, had shouted to his fellow men: 'Beware of listening to this imposter; you are lost if you forget the fruits of the earth belong to all and that the earth belongs to no one." - Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Guys don't pay attention to housecleaning product commercials. At least most guys don't. They go to the supermarket and buy whatever is cheapest or in front of them. It's all basically the same anyway.

Perhaps it's just a Utah thing, but I've seen plenty.

When you get wealthier you can hire a hot young woman to clean your house like I do. And I don't give a damn what cleaning products she uses either btw.

I normally don't watch commercials so I cannot say whether they are racist. However, I remember a time when all the actors and actresses were uniformly very good looking. Then one day, we began seeing really ugly women on some commercials. It was a shock.

It all had to do with some complaint filed by NOW or some such organization. I think they also complained that the Playboy playmates were too good looking. Hefner, however, stood his ground and refused to publish ugly women.

Do they still have ugly women in commercials?

yeah, like that flat black lady with buck teeth on the pinesol commercials.

                  two birds.

as for latinos in commercials, i suppose you're right. i can't recall all that many (though there are a few). maybe you're just thinking of the sterotypical latinos?

"The Jeffersons" had a mixed marriage. I know there's a Comcast Digital Cable commercial (which you probably haven't seen, since Comcast is regional I believe) with a white woman and her black husband.

As far as women in commercials, I think it's much more apparent in ones dealing with cleaning products (Laundry, glass and surface, etc.) because they are appealing to the economic group which uses them most - women. I don't think it's done to purposely label women as domestic servants. Also - cooking products and the like is split pretty evenly, I'd say. I often see commercials where the guy is making dinner for his family or his wife. The point there being that everyone eats, and is just as likely to have the food product appeal to them.

Yeah...Speaking of which, I was reading a magazine showing Microsoft Corperation's newest campaign showing people dancing due to Microsoft Corperation's technology.
It's interesting because it reminds me largely of propaganda posters from the People's Republic of China and the former Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics showing people dancing due to Joseph Stalin/Mao Tse-Tung's newest whatevers.
Not all corperate propaganda is equal though. McDonald Corperation's newest propaganda campaign "I'm lovin' (sic) it" is really bad. Almost as bad as state-sanctioned government propaganda like that from the United States of America.
Even the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland was affected. Have you ever seen ITS propaganda during WW2? Sigh.
The Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya propaganda really sucks though. So does their flag.

The ad in Britain for Bacardi ("starring" Vinnie Jones) has more Latinos than any other racial type.

The tagline being "Bacardi - Welcome to the Latin Quarter" may have something to do with this though.
But if they're choosing to associate themselves with Latinos then I don't see how you could complain.
