I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

          Groups disadvantaged by this:
          -Children
          -Singles
          -Infertile
-Gays (why hasn't MrFun been here yet?)
-Elderly (depending on how strictly they define "child". does it have to be living with you? can it have achieved voting rights on its own already?)
          -the all-covering etc.

On a completely unrelated note, I think the voting age should be dropped to 16.

I am 19, so there's no conflict of interest in that statement.

Who in their right mind would vote a child into any office?

I think the right to vote should be restricted to me . . . and maybe Theben.

In my opinion, children (or teenagers) at 16 aren't ready to vote yet. At their age they're really vulnerable to outside influences and most of the time they are still developing their view on the world. (I remember my views were quite extremist when I was 16 ), I now see it a tiny little bit different though

I used to be for death penalty, can ya believe that

                            Children? Vote?
The proposal says that parents get an additional vote for each child.

I agree that ppl at 16 are still forming their world views.
I changed my ideas a lot from 16 to 18 while they changed much less since then. (now 20)
I still think lowering the legal age is a good idea (its the same in Canada).
With the ageing population, the age of avergae voter has gone so much up since say the sixties that it represents less and less the needs of children and young people and more and more needs of elders.
Although one extreme is as bas as the other, I think the balance is tipped in favor of the elder and some counter-tipping could help, specially since this will only accelerate.
In general I think it's fair to say that older ppl are more conservative and younger ppl more radical.
Either extremes are bad, thats why we need to strike a balance, which lowering to 16 would help in my case.
Most ppl 16 are at least as ready to vote as most ppl over 75. I dont know how their relative weight compate, but it would surely help bring some new ideas in North American governments.
