I thought Georgia was turning things around for the better. This isn't good to see.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I don't get it. Shevarnadze was the good guy during the last years of the USSR.
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
            Once again...

I know, he was one of the masterminds behind the perestroika, but ended up a Caucasus version of Mugabe.

              He has resigned now, btw

'Washington's State Department has called for calm in "reaching a compromise solution acceptable to all and in the interest of Georgia." '

Thats a great way to stall while they find Georgia on the map for Bush and explain to him its history.

I remember a tv program about Georgia and one of its citizens claiming that it had two great sons in past century; Stalin and Shevarnadze

CNN had portrayed this as a bloodless revolution -- but will it actually bring about a more equitable democracy??

I guess time will tell -- unless the current government decides to use military brute force to begin the bloodshed.

Will no one sing "the devil went down to georgia" right now?

The people wanted Shevarnadze gone, and it's nice to see bloodshed was averted.

Because this kind of thing happens often?
