I'm consitently stupid- Japher I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Oh please. Why do people always attribute common everyday events to some supreme being.
Quick thanking mythological beings and thank your wife. She did all the work.
'Common, everyday events.'
It may be both, but that doesn't make it any less special. You thank God because sometimes no matter how hard you try, you can't bring about a baby.

Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh

Alright, that was poor phrasing in a thread about giving birth, especially considering what my wife and I went through to have our first child. Still, I give 99.9% of the credit to my wife, with the fraction going to me and the medical community. No divine intervention necessary.

Many Hap Ret's to your daughter Sloww, and congrats for surviving the 23 years
I remember when my son David was born (15/3/91) - My wife Georgina was pretty fast for a 1st timer: under 5 hours from 1st twinge to delivery.
The thing I remember about David is that I knew he was going to be bright - he was handed to me (my poor wife had some tearing so was having stiches ).
David looked up at my face, then he looked at my chest - and then he started to cry
Emma (16/8/94) was even faster than David was - under 3 hours.
By the time we got to the hospital Georgina was already fully dilated, which meant that she had zero pain relief for the whole labour
She's usually such a quiet thing but the way she screamed scared the hell out of me.
The thing I remember most about Emma was the nightimes at home (I was on nightshift as I could program and look after her at the same time). She would only sleep in the baby sling, on me, stood up!
With Lucy (15/4/01) we knew the labour would be fast (and it was, under 2 hours this time) so we went for a home birth
She was born in the kitchen with the attendance of no less than 3 midwives with a combined experience of over 50 years (gotta love our socialized NHS )
Lucy was an amazingly active baby - holding her head up at birth no less - trouble is she's still as active (I need caffine NOW!)
Savor the years before the age of 10. They'll probably be the best years ever. And take lots of pictures! Preferably digital ones, so you can plaster her face all over the web
And have her join the Young Communists Party
I've emailed the link to Summer, so she can see what good people I run with.
Poor thing had to work on her day.
Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.
