  • NZ 40 - France 13

Well, New Zealand deserves its victory, the individual qualities of the Blacks made the difference over French players unable to challenge them on this ground, missing their tackles and without any efficiency when they had the ball.

This is more or less the score I would have predicted when I heard the replacements will play instead of the original team.

    • Les Grenouilles were abysmal! Okay, it was a 2nd XV, but they were rudderless, they had no method except to kick the ball away at every opportunity, they missed tackles, and they gave away countless very stupid penalties. And M'lle Labit changed her hair colour again! If she spent as much time thinking about her rugby as she did her hair, she might actually contribute something to the game!

That said, the ABs were only competent. Several of their tries were dodgy, particularly the one from the throw in that went barely 2 metres. And why was the hooker allowed to throw - more than once - straight into the stomach of the man at the front of the lineout? That isn't throwing the ball in straight!

According to John Eales it could be Jonno you know.
I probably wouldn't have too many arguments with it.

And the scratchers insult is very British I guess – it is based on their post tackle actions.
It's still lost on me. Let's leave it at that.

Mortlock can’t have another game at that intensity can he?
As I said, that's the only way he knows how to play. Full on, full speed, crash through. You wouldn't think he was a Marine Biologist or whatever he is.

I’m sure Baxter and Dunning will come through in the finest Aussie tradition – but you can be sure they will be targeted for a good testing.
The even more scary thing is that Dunning, who has played all his rugby as a #1, is having to cover #3.

True Rugger fans – like the Havak touring veterans for example – you would get on very well with I’m sure.
Except I'm an exceptionally moderate drinker.

I didn’t understand the Betsen verdict either. Particularly given the ban exactly matches that of a certain Mr McCrae and his deliberate actions (Havak plays another favourite tune…)
They said it wasn't deliberate, they said it was imprudent. What does imprudent mean in this context? It has to mean reckless. Well, 6 weeks is a long time for something reckless. As you suggest.

By the way Tamerlin – Horse exists to troll. It is his Raison d'être. How would he know England’s past standards – he is no rugby man. Aussie Rules mainly isn’t it?
              L*****!

                • well I thought the French did well up to the 50 minute mark. Then they got homesick.

I must admit the summary is quite good.

                    • The idea of a 3rd place play-off is ridiculous - two disappointed and tired teams playing for a meaningless title

It would be much better for a Barbarians type match between the 2 halves of the draw, with at least 1 player from each country, and a maximum of 5

                      • I suspect New Zealand had a lot to play for.

If the French had beaten them..........oh dear
