WMP9 uses 8.5MB of RAM and 2% CPU playing the same song.

it still feels heavy, whether it is or not. response time for minimization is slower, it eats up more processor time with the visualizations, i hate the "media library" (i'll organize my music my own, long, damn way, thank you), the default skin is clunky...
give me the spartan winamp2 anyday.
        i'll give winamp5 a shot, though...

Even WMP9 and Office 2003 don't require you to reboot these days.

amen and praise the lord. i like office 2k3.

          Winamp 5 is Winamp 2 + Winamp 3.

Are you confusing locking the taskbar with auto-hide?

There's no point to using the taskbar unlocked unless you constantly move its position around on the screen, unlocked uses up more screen realestate (enough for two tray icons or so) just to display the little bumpy-circle things to tell you it's unlocked. When you have the bar in a position you like, you simply lock it and get more space back.

              HELL FROZE OVER

Asher is way too biased for my tastes. He's always critical of anything that is NOT Wintel or Wintel related in the tech world. That's why I will continue to keep him on ignore.

I say no more and read no more.

By the way, "HELL FROZE OVER!"

              HAVE A DAY.
<--- Quote by Former U.S. President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt
"And there will be strange events in the skies--signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And down here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. The courage of many people will falter because of the fearful fate they see coming upon the earth, because the stability of the very heavens will be broken up. Then everyone will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds with power and great glory. So when all these things begin to happen, stand straight and look up, for your salvation is near!" --Luke 21:25-28
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the call of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, all the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever. --1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

There'll never be a Winamp4. They are working Winamp5 right now (based on the 2+3=5 logic that makes sense to Nullsoft and me). Winamp3 is excellent for my purposes and, yes, I have tried WMP and foobar2000.

Do people actually like visualizations and all that other cra... er ... stuff (like faux equalizers and useless waveform monitors)? I find that cra... er ... stuff to be incredibly annoying. I like my music player minimized down to nothing but play, skip, stop and the name of the tune. I only need all the other controls when I'm setting up playlists and assigning equalization settings to files. When I don't need it, I don' t want to see it.
What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?

I wouldn't mind the visualizations so much(speaking of WMP9), if they weren't so poorly done.

I use iTunes at home and the visualizations just bug me.

Asher: I'm kind of surprised that you keep them on. They serve no purpose whatsoever and use otherwise useful clock cycles. What's the point in maximizing the amount of processing power you've got if you're just going to flush it away on cheesy light shows?

                              My ex-roomate like the visualizations.

Of course, that was only when he was tripping on acid and everyone else was either asleep or ignoring him.

The rest of his time was spend playing everquest

                                those visualizations good?

they're cheap knockoffs. the original, the ultimate, was geiss 4.23 for winamp2. it's now up to geiss 4.24 or something, and there's a geiss2, but the best one was geiss for winamp.

written in assembly, for god's sake.
