Sheer brilliance. One problem is how she was able to get away with carrying that sword on the plane, but hey, every good film needs its flaw.

A lot of the "flaws" are intentionally left in the movie to do two things:

      1. To set it up that we aren't in the "real world." Hence, not only did the Bride have a sword on the plane, so did everybody else.
      2. To pay hommage to Tarantino's beloved exploitation movies, including skipped tracks (heard a couple of times during the movie) and plot inconsistancies you can drive a truck through. Nevermind her going to Japan and back, how did she leave her hospital room a charnel house with two dead bodies and a missing coma victim, and yet nobody bothered to check the victims car, especially when they figured out Buck's keys were missing (as they would've done within 5 minutes of discovering the body)?

I agree with the truck, but a minor point IMHO. The 4 years it is easy that she could have seen a watch, or something with the date on that we didn't see.

I loved the fight scenes, and they we're hardly that long. I'm not a big fan of long fight scenes, but I loved the B&W camera action, and the way it was shot. And Uma Thurman was fantastic in them.

Actually, she knew about the four years from reading her palm (life line and all that.)

Ah yes, I remember that. Although would palm readings be the same if she was comatose?

This movie didn't have enough blood in it.

Why do movies insist on having violent combat yet show now blood in order to get a PG-13 rating? Lord of the Rings was like this. This film should have more blood to be more realistic.

Anyways, what's not atheistic about the movie?

okay I just got back from seeing it. Now for my "real review"

Slick stylistic fantasy film is what I will call it. I cannot call it anything else than fantasy. Not even a note of realism in the entire film. This has more fantasy than Lord of the Rings. Why they even bothered to try to pretend to be realistic when her legs were immobile was beyond me. Why were her arms as strong as ever? They should have just played like the rest of the movie and gave her magical powers. Carrying swords on airplanes. Flying. Superhuman strength. What is she?- a superhero?

But the movie was slick. And some of the still shots were brilliant. If this were a flat painting, this movie would have hundreds of brilliant canvases. But the problem is this is a film. And it is supposed to have a story and characters. This movie did have characters, I'll give you that. But there was little or no background information aside from silly standard action backgrounds (as in the anime of the Japanese woman). And the anime? WTF was that? Get that crap off my movie screen!

And could there be any more blood in this movie? This movie alone will be responsible for hundreds of deaths accross the united states. God knows how many kids will kill themselves playing with a ball and chain. Hell, after walking out of the movie, I felt like going to a pawn shop, buying a sword, and hacking people up. It looked so cool. This is irresponsible film making at it's best (or worst). Seriously, there is something wrong with americans to crave this kind of violence.

why all violence and no sex? Well there was sex in a way. Very perverted sex. Rape, paedophilia, and just general hatred towards one man for wanting to have sex with a woman. There is something strange in Quentin Tarantino with regards to sex.

But there were things I liked. I did like the sword play. Hey, I love role playing games, so you know I like swords. I was happy to see that, and not the standard unarmed combat. I'm very tired of unarmed combat in movies. So I did love the samuri swords. Were they katanas? And like I said before, in each scene there is at least one picture that just looks amazing. It would look amazing as a painting, or as photography. But it lacks a story and proper character devolopment.

To sum it up, I kind of liked it and hated it at the same time. It is easily his worst film though.

One thumbs down on a scale of 4 thumbs up to 4 thumbs down.

did you not hear all the talk about god?

                      • I mean, it didn't mention religion or anti-religion, how can it be atheistic? To be atheistic, it must have some anti-God message, yet I saw no direct referances to God.

I'm pretty sure yes. They were too big to be anything else. Looked much like some Katanas in the British Museam I've seen.

Nah, I missed that part. Whatever. It obviously didn't offend my sensibility.

I did notice the cathedral in Once Upon a Time in Mexico and the cross tattoo on the protagonist in Rundown and penalized those accordingly.

I should probably rename the category to "secular".

                            • Most of the god-talk was in Japanese. So it was all subtitled.

They talked about not even let god stand in the way of revenge.

And later they talked about cutting god or something like that.

And someone had a cross around their neck- I can't remember who exactly.

                              • I think I'll review the previews as well . damn previews were 10 minutes long.

scary movie 3 previews were pretty good. I like the crop circles that say attack here with an arrow pointed to the house The problem with previews such as these, is they show all the good jokes. Often times you see all the jokes in the previews and there is nothing new in the movie. Leslie Nielson punching that guy with the funny voice was funny as well.

The Jerry Stiller movie with Jenifer Aniston movie looked pretty good. Though some of the gags fall flat. Nice finish with his face sliding alongside a shirtless fat guys chest

The alamo movie looked so-so. It showed a nice (probably computer generated) overhead scene of the entire battle. That looked impressive. But the other previews weren't very good. I'm curious how they will portray the mexicans in this movie though.

Some other preview for a movie with Ed Harris, Nicole Kidman, and that other old dude. This movie looks boring.
