But only a raving lunatic would say that he never ever had them. After all, what did UNSCOM find?

It is absolutely honest to say he never had nuclear weapons, because he didn't.

He may have had a few chemical shells and assorted odds and ends before the start of the war, but nothing substantial.

Anyway, we on the left don't have to prove the non-existence of weapons of mass destruction, the American occupying forces seem to have done a dandy job.

Face it fascists, we were right and you were wrong, period.

Give it up, Sloww. If you keep holding out hope of WMD finds then you may end up in an even worse position.

If they find anything it will be papers, or other small time stuff, like old chemical shells. It's becoming increasingly clear that the reason Saddam fudged over inspections was basically so he could keep some level of deterrence against Iran (at whom the said weapons would most likely be deployed). Nevertheless, they all seem to be gone and, despite what people say, he couldn't just have got rid of them right before the war.

            Think up some other justification.

I'm going to say this, as a left-winger...I thought that Iraq DID was WoMD's prior to the war (tho' as Agathon says, nothing substanial) and I really had to do some serious thinking before deciding I was in favor of going into Iraq, IF it was done right. Whatever else, Saddam and his cronies are/were bastards who slaughtered Iranians, Kurds, and "enemies of the state". We on the Left seem to have forgotten our own position on Saddam (atl east, it seems so in the media)in the 80's and 90's, and there's plenty of leftist literature from that period pointing out the scum the Baathists are, and calling for their removal.

That said, my support is limited. I want actual success in Iraq, setting up a true democracy run by Iraqis and allowing them to run their country their way. But for some dumb-azz reason I allowed myself to hope even for a moment that Bush and his cronies would allow self-rule and not give oil/rebuilding contracts to all of the Republicans' donor list. Along with our "shoot from the hip" diplomacy vehmented at our allies- our ALLIES for God's sake- it's no wonder most of the world is skeptical of our intentions there.

Look, I'm still hopeful. But you right-wingers need to see how stupid supporting Bush is making you look. And if you continue to support a guy whose administration is best known for gaining power thu a coup de 'etat, lying to the American people, and rolling back our civil liberties for dubious (dubyaous?) reasons, well, then you get what you deserve.

WTF is a missle, in your mind?
                A delivery system.

Ah, so you admit the americans bombarded bahgdad with weapons of mass destruction?

When you find the warehouses full of nuclear warheads, and the reprocessing plant, and the anthrax development lab, let me know, Sloww.

So you Radical Liberal's contention is that Hussein was allowed under terms of the cease-fire to have SAM's ?

I give up on you worthless *******s.

So are you justifying the conflict based on Saddam having SAM's?

just as it's dishonest for left-wingers to believe that saddamn never had womd.
Well, when the inspectors left in '98 they said he had destroyed all of the WoMD.

We on the Left seem to have forgotten our own position on Saddam
We aren't against getting rid of Saddam, it is the way the US is getting rid of Saddam.

I think it is funnyt that the conservatives try to justify the war by saying Saddam was a little bit out of bounds of the rules, yet this war is a blatant violation of international law. I am absolutely disgusted with politics in America.
"The first man who, having fenced off a plot of land, thought of saying, 'This is mine' and found people simple enough to believe him was the real founder of civil society. How many crimes, wars, murders, how many miseries and horrors might the human race had been spared by the one who, upon pulling up the stakes or filling in the ditch, had shouted to his fellow men: 'Beware of listening to this imposter; you are lost if you forget the fruits of the earth belong to all and that the earth belongs to no one." - Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Which is why I edited my post to say "at least in seems in the media". I don't recall any left-of-center person trotted out in front of the microphones saying anything along these lines.

The 1st 2 points are extremely weak reasons for intervening in a foreign nation's affairs. The last point is valid, but 1) why in Iraq, and not other nations who percecute their citizens; and 2) why now, and not anytime earlier? We've known since at least 1968 that the Ba'athists were scum.
