Re: Is Bavaria the Texas of Germany?

The thread about German conservatives winning in Bavaria got me thinking about the old question - is Bavaria the Texas of Germany? My theory is that every country has a Texas. For instance, Finland's Texas is clearly the area of Pohjanmaa, which is big wide area that is conservative, religious, aggressive, and has a strong regional identity. Of course, there are differences - while everyone in Texas carries a gun, everyone in Pohjanmaa carries a knife.
Anyway, back to Texas and Bavaria, here's a chart of comparisons:
(Incidentally, this would probably make America the Texas of the world.)
Except for two mistakes.

To be fair though, I think Bavaria has produced more dangerous conservatives than Texas.

Judging by the criteria laid out on that site, the Texas of the UK is Wales. That just doesn't seem right."Paul Hanson, you should give Gibraltar back to the Spanish" - Paiktis, dramatically over-estimating my influence in diplomatic circles.

Americans from other states don't have much animosity or envy towards Texans.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
