/me tosses another tomato at JRabbit

Semantics are a poor game to play when dealing with this sort of thing. Your girlfriend will think that you do love her if you reply to her question with that answer.

Tell her the truth. It will be better in the long run.

Who cares about the long run? How many smokers care about the guy they are about to kill in 20 years? They dont. You dont.

Anyways tell her what you are really thinking (well part of it...), you will feel better about it

After all, I remember all the excellent stuff that Pekka said about love.

          By Pekka
Sure but love isn't something that can be measured, defined clearly etc

          By Pekka
Yeah, we can do the ultimate love test.

Me, or someone else beat you senseless. We are asking for her homenumber. We torture you with the most horrible methods known to man. Hot sand torture, hanging from your hands, Sudanese nipple torture, sticks under your nails, Chinese water drops, brake all your fingers and make you blind. This goes on for 48h and you will not be the same after you are done, you will have horrible injuries including psychological traumas that you won't be able to recover from. Will you last?
          Do you give the info?

You went a bit over the line there, though. Torture with those "worst methods" implies that it can't be tolerated. Physically, no human can go through it, love or not. At best, one would go unconscious after a few hours.

Now that I miss that, I'll probably always just be called dude. At least 'Sir' had a modicum of respect.

I don't think you can measure love by what you would do for someone either. It is a feeling, and emotion, not an action. No only can it not be defined by an action, I think it cannot be measured either.

I'd rather say it's a condition. And the condition would also imply that you will do anything you can to make the other person happy or protect her.

I don't agree. I think it is purely a feeling. I don't think your actions come into it. I don't think there are conditions to feeling love.

Well, if you say it that way, a feeling usually has some consequences. Feeling of anger has consequences of screwing something up , feeling of love has the consequence of acting accordingly towards your loved one.

Saying it's purely a feeling is meaningless though, because it doesn't interact with the outside world.

It's only through actions do you crystalise - for want of a better word - love (or hate, or anger, etc.).

If you're telling this chick you love her after 2.5 weeks, I suggest you check your credit report and bank statement and get ready to start a family, because you're already hooked through the bag. Now THAT'S a funny feeling betwixt the legs.
