Typically when hurricanes get that far north, they're moving very quickly. IIRC, they're referred to as NorEasters, because they're heading North East. Anyway, the real fear of hurricanes in NYC is from storm surge, which could flood the city, not wind (as the winds are generally diminished by that time, having traveled over so much cold water.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...
As always, a lot of the damage would be flooding related, not wind, and thr thing is most strcutures in NY are brick, not wood, so they would not be so succeptible.

As for flooding, I would only have to worry about rain-inspired flooding where I am, 300 feet above sea level.

I wonder what will happen if this thing hits NYC.
Well, Manhattan will be clean for the first time in history. The Guggenheim, the Met, and most of the restaurants in Chinatown are sheltered close to the ground, so the storm would vent its high-wind spleen on the other buildings that don't matter. Meanwhile, conditions would be damp, noisy and hazardous for everyone in the city, but that wouldn't be much different from what their subway workers go through every day. No biggie.
Anyway, Izzie's down to Class 2 now and will probably not have much left in it by the time it hits D.C. The main danger we are in at this point is that it just might sweep through Anacostia on the way, and cars on cinderblocks are probably really easy for wind to pick up and toss around.
Well, This will be my 6th Hurricane in about 15 years..

I live in Onslow County, Jacksonville, just south of Morehead City.
We will be undergun moreso if it varies slightly westard.
As it stand we will be seeing highwinds and high waves.
Funny side though, kinda...My son whom is a surfer, I allways restricted him from Topsail Island (where they will be getting 20+ foot waves) is now a SWAT team member on Onslow County Sherriffs department. We joked about how I cant restrict him anymore..but then he stopped and thanked me for making him safe.
We should be ok with this one, maybe 8"-10" of rain..and some high winds...100-120mph gusts
Storm Surge is what causes most of damage upon landfall...
Water is 8.33 lbs per gallons...and a cubic foot of water has 7.49 gallons for a cft weight of 62.4 pounds.
Go figure what a Wall of Water would weigh , say 200 feet long maybe 100 foot deep and 25' tall
THATS MASS FORCE!!
I was on Topsail Island rebuilding bridges approaches supporting NCDOT Bridge Maint. in past storms, amazing what a wall will do full of water..floats a 40 yard rolloff box 1000', removes a 3 story townhouse, displaces tons of sand, makes new inlets...
I have lots of pics and makes asphalt roadways into ribbon-candy in ocean...
Then we have the flooding of course, Tornadoes, and debris fills in runoff areas, which basically makes a dam..THUS Flooding.
In past some major streams had a lot of trees blown down so the water had no wher to go but to overflow its banks...sad..what happens then...
Has only been one Cat5 to touch US mainland in last 100 years. But Isabel is now down to Cat 3. Means less death and destruction which is good. But some perverse thing in me feels bad that it won't be a record breaker.
Andrew (barely)
Camille (200 mph IIRC, and kinda scary since it only took a couple days to develop)
and Labor Day, 1935 (destroyed railroad causways in Florida Keys)
