  • Hurricane Isabel's now a category 5! (eek.)

Boy am I glad I don't live on the US East Coast right now!
Looks like it could hit the Carolinas/Georgia mid-next week - and a Cat. 5 is just plain scary

    Satellite imagery:

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/satellite.shtml - I'm watching the Atlantic Visible loop right now; kind of neat to watch the sunrise from above

Of course there is this scary hurricane with the nicely defined eye right in the middle ..... *hides*
But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

I just realized, I have no renter's insurance.

      I really hope this misses.

Better buy a lot of boards and plastic tarp. I hope you don't have a ground floor apartment.

I can't wait to see what this does the the D.C. Metro area. These people can't drive in inclement weather...

We're on the 2nd floor, and far enough inland that we aren't gonna have a problem with storm surge. The aera will flood though. Heck, we flood during an heavy summer rainstorm.

I have about $50 'till next Friday, which ain't enough for boards. I wonder if I should go lift some tonight from the construction site. I could probably afford tarp.

Most likely it's gonna head north. Jacksonville is the least likely spot on the Atlantic/Gulf sea board to be hit by huricanes. It's because storms tend to turn north and we're set back from the peninsula. Course, the place took a near miss in '98.

I'd rather it come ashore here though, rather than say, St. Augustine or Savanah or Charleston. Jax is a black hole of architecture, and the world wouldn't miss us. We're a good candidate for urban renewal.

They say it's a greater than 50% chance it's gonna hit the U.S. at this point.

The path trackers had it coming closest to the US along the carolina coast, though weakere by then, a category 3.

                    Well, I got insurance now.

Most likely it's gonna miss us, but who knows. It could head for the Bahamas and strengthen up again then come barreling down on us. Gotta be prepared.

I am now, officially, a Floridian. I've had to worry about a hurricane.

                        I love Cape Hatteras.

I hope it's still there after this...

I dunno. A hurricane is a golden oppurtunity.... I remember after Andrew several dozen made it off with millions after robbing a miami bank during the storm. Not after it.

I used to live in Tampa awhile ago. The only hurricanes I can think of that hit us directly was Elana and Bill
